Starting to think about getting a road bike and would welcome thoughts on Cervelo R3 v. S2 v. Specialized Roubaix. I was thinking of an Ultrgra set-up so all three bike are in the same $3,000 range. The Roubaix seems to be my front runner at the moment.

Let me know what you think.

PS: my tri bike is a Felt DA.

They're all good bikes, but also quite different bikes... First of all, the geometry will be quite different between them, so before you do anything else make sure they will fit you (bike fit first, purchase bike after).

The R3 is a very nice climbing bike that is also quite comfortable. It does have a very low head tube though (something that Cervelo fixed with the new R5). The S2 on the other hand is much more of a "flat landers" bike. Excellent at pounding on the miles right at the limit.

The Roubaix is a different animal all together... you're looking at the bike that is designed specifically for long distance rides, where comfort is the #1 priority, and efficiency comes a close second.

You'll be fine with either one, but narrow it down to a) which one fits you the best and then b) which one fits your needs the most

I just got a new R3 about a month ago, (photo's to follow), previous post is correct it is a climbers bike. Light and super stiff. Also very good on decents, I have never ridden anything so solid on a 40 mph decent with sweeping turns, rock solid.

I have an R3 and a P2. The R3 is a great bike. When I was looking for a new road bike I think I tried pretty much everything out there that fit. What clinched it for me was taking it up the Manayunk Wall. The bike is light, stiff, and climbs like a mountain goat. I took it with me last summer to Lake Placid and it just reaffirmed what a great climbing bike this is. It's also very comfortable, I could ride it all day.

Rio Rancho - where you can ride year round!

I have the S2, really enjoy it. Yes, it's an "aero" bike so like the post above, you can push it to the upper limits and hold, but I've found it climbs well for the type of riding I do. Living in New Mexico, there are flat areas mixed with good climbing areas of whatever grade and elevation you want. It also came with the Ultegra group, which was an upgrade for me from the Allez I was riding. Very smooth and responsive.

Just ride them all on the same route to see what you like best.
