Overall Rank = 58/87

Age Group Rank = 5/7
Pre-race routine:

I woke up before the alarm, had a bagel with almond butter and a banana, and I made a cup of coffee for the drive. The drive was easy, but when I got to the race site, everyone was already set up, and the race was about to start, even though I thought I was an hour early. Eventually, I realized that Indiana is in a different time zone than Illinois!! The race director was great, helped me get my chip and race number.
Event warmup:

I had zero warmup. I barely had enough time to set up transition, put on my wetsuit and get down to the beach. The Olympic female group had already started, so I had to switch to the Sprint, which I was just in time for.
Swim
  • 10m 47s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 10s / 100 meters
Comments:

The course was pretty easy, and the water was flat. Didn't feel cold in the wetsuit, though it could have been the adrenaline from the rushed start. Water was a little murky. It was pretty crowded at the start and didn't seem to thin out a whole lot until after the first leg, but I could still see other swimmers the whole time. I was trying to go fast, and I ended up breathing after every stroke and sighting frequently, which seemed to work pretty well.
What would you do differently?:

I felt slow coming out of the water, but other than that, I think the swim was good.
Transition 1
  • 03m 40s
Comments:

Short run from the beach and a small transition area. I put on a long sleeve tech shirt and gloves because of the cold. These clothes were enough to keep me warm. I put on socks under my cycling shoes, which was a little uncomfortable, but kept my feet a little warmer.
What would you do differently?:

My time was faster than I thought it would be. I should get toe covers for my shoes.
Bike
  • 39m 55s
  • 11 miles
  • 16.53 mile/hr
Comments:

The course and the park were nice. I saw a couple cars on the road, but it wasn't crowded at all. I was a little disappointed with my time. I thought I was going faster, but maybe the hills slowed me down. I had a lot of trouble getting clipped in at the start.
What would you do differently?:

Work on mount and dismount. Need to put in more miles on the bike. Probably should have drank more water.
Transition 2
  • 01m 34s
Comments:

This transition was a little slow. I fumbled a lot with my running shoe laces, because my fingers were cold. I took off the gloves for the run.
What would you do differently?:

Need Lace Locks for my running shoes.
Run
  • 32m
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

The run felt a little hard. I had some stomach cramps for the first half. I'm probably not as in shape as I should be, and definitely not used to running on hills.
What would you do differently?:

More practice, but was an average run for me.
Post race
Warm down:

Post-race, I had a lot of water and half a banana. Later, I had a small sandwich. They had a raffle, and I won a free Race ID!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just need to keep training, but overall, I was pretty happy with my results. The swim was definitely faster, bike was a little slower, and run was average.

Event comments:

Nice race. I would do this one again.

Great job!  Quick laces are a life saver.  I actually want to put them on all my shoes.
