G-Moose - 2013-04-03 2:12 PM What about water temps? Historically has it been wetsuit legal? Worried about the swim, will have very little non-wetsuit ows practice in Indiana if the weather doesn't get warm soon..

The water is going to be warm and not wetsuit legal. You will be fine in the swim. The only time I ever do OWS is during races

Just registered along with 2 friends.

Looking forward to a "local" race.

Have any of you done it before? I am thinking the family will want to do Disney or Universal while I race, or at least Saturday.

Went and rode the bike course last weekend followed by a lap on the run course.  Remember to be in a low gear out of transition as there is an immediate uphill.  OK, the whole course seemed uphill

gonna be fun!

Hey All,

I rode the course this weekend. Not too bad. Aside from the initial hill, which is not steep, but is .25 - .5 miles, the course if not too bad.
I felt like the hills really started kicking in after mile 30. However, I also got lost and did an extra hill.

Course is already marked, except for two turns. One of those turns is a left onto Timeberlane, which I think they will have marked by race day.

My plan is to ride on the conservative side for the first 60-90 minutes so that I am not burnt at the end.

Run course is nice, the toughest part is two hills about 3 minutes out from transition.

See you there!

How long would you say the two hills are on the run course? Just trying to get a visual.

I am from Haines City and am in the event.  The two roads not marked are Timberline and Jim Edwards Rd.  I don't think they will have them marked by race day.  They both have signs before the road marking their names (Timberline and Jim Edwards).  Also, the Grace Avenue turn (which has an Ironman sign) is Hornet Dr that turns into Grace Avenue.

Good Luck!

My guess is a 1/4 mile each.  I'm not good at distances though.  The 1 mile sign is just after you top the last hill if I remember.  Have to warn you they are pretty steep.  They look like they are much longer than they are especially right after you get off the bike.

And yea, the bike hills really start around mile 25 but from 40 - 48 is a gradual downhill so you get a little breather.  I know last year I was I was 5 mph slower on the back side of the course.  I think it s hilly but the only hills I ride are bridge overpasses

Eli-

I thinkyou should take the family to Disney on Saturday and make sure you get plenty of time walking around in the sun.  It will do wonders for you at the race on Sunday.  I am just hoping to stay with 15 minutes of you on the swim.

Well I had my last long ride yesterday. Had to endure three hours on the trainer due to rain. I hope to get one more long run in before this weekend. I am heading down this Saturday and spending a week at the beach before the race.

Todd,

It is Nick Valaitis you need to worry about. He has been smoking fast at the Deerfield pool.

Bastard!

I guess it depends on how well you swim... I am lucky enough to be in the first wave after the Pro Women which means three waves of age group young ladies will be swimming over me followed by wave after wave of you young age group males. Oh well... its only an hour 20 in the water.

Subject: Staging on Sunday morning

HIM first timer.  I'll be there to register on Saturday and familiarize myself with transition areas, but am in a later swim wave and am considering staging my bike and transition bags on Sunday morning.   Is there any reason that I haven't considered that this is a bad idea?

Thanks for any input.
