At the end of the article, Peter said, "In Squamish, no one will know me, and I think that will help with my transition."

Yeah right. There aren't many places Peter could go and people not know him. Still, goodbye to a great racer. What a stud.

At first I thought you wrote "I'm squemish, and I need help with my transitions."  I may need glasses.

He was a great one.

When I first started reading, I said Yeah right, he's retiring again.  He'll be back in a couple weeks.  But the article really makes it sounds for real this time.  Can't wait to read the interview in Tri Mag.

While I'm saddened to see he is leaving the sport on which he left such a huge mark, I'm sure everyone wishes him all the best, and the hugest of congratulations on such an amazing career.

Kudos Peter.

Everybody knows him in BC.
Whats he thinking. Maybe if he moved to Alert bay, people will not know who he is!

Sad to see him go.

It's always sad when a great athlete retires, Peter Reid was definately a great one and he will be missed. He was an inspiration for all of us who live here in Victoria and he is the reason I started doing triathlons. I wish him the best of luck and like I said, he will be missed.

After doing triathlons for living for so long (10 years), what does one do afterwards?  Is there a career out there with a desk job that they have experience in?  Do they coach?  Get a job with one of their sponsors? Doing what?

All that said wondered, from what I have read and see Peter Reid is a class act and wish him the best.

I am huge Peter Reid fan, disappointing to see him go.

Yes he will probably coach unless you want to offer him your spare room, Captain America!!

I was really excited to hopefully meet him in person when I realized he had signed up for St. A's but alas, he was no where to be found. He was at the pro meeting (no, I was not in there either).

I will miss waiting and rooting for him in hopes of acheiving another Ironman first place finish at Kona.

But it sounds like it is time........maybe he will return as an age grouper some day.....I got to watch (well the swim only) him and Tim DeBoom battle out the grudge match at Vineman last year - very fun! Great Athlete!

It was certainly a sad day yesterday. I've followed Peter for a number of years, and the inspiration/motivation he provided to so many of us is priceless. Just thinking about his monastic/zen-like training and focus puts one back on-track.

I've heard him give a variety of options after retirement ranging in going back to school (I believe he studied poli sci in university) to even politics.

We're certainly witnessing a changing of the guards with the young gunners quickly ascending.
