I'm looking ahead at the next couple of months for running races and wondering what some of the must do races are out there?  There are a lot of inexpensive local (Whatcom/Skagit county) races to pick from that I'll do but would also like to plan to do a few new ones.

What have been some of your favorite Fall/Winter races?

Would love to be doing Lake Padden Trail Half again this year, last year was great, but unfortunately an injury is keeping me out.

Hope to be healthy for Nootkachamps in January, down in Skagit county.

I am doing the mustache dache 5 K in November, then plan to do the Toys for Tots 10K in Arlington in December.  I think I will do the Nookachamps 1/2 in January and am trying to pick out a spring marathon.  I'm thinking of the Yakima River Canyon.  Anyone ever done that one?

Nookachamps is a good race.  I've done the 5k last two years and might do the half this year.  The weather was horrible last year so it might be a game day decision what distance to do this year.

I also have done the Yakima River Canyon marathon the last two years and will definately do it again this spring.  Spectacular scenery as you wind along the river.  Most of the course is a gradual downhill grade with a few killer hills towards the end.  Last few miles are downhill.  Very positive, friendly atmosphere.  The logistics of the point to point was OK the first year when my wife drove around and met me at the finish line but last year I went over and ran the race with just my daughter so had to take the shuttle back which was a nightmare.

the only fall race on my schedule right now, tentatively, is 10/27, at Point defiance park in Tacoma, a 5 miles, in the dark, costumed halloween run. It should be fun but it is my first year doing it!

The Bellingham Trail Marathon on Nov 11 is new but the people behind it are known for putting on some really fun runs.

So, it's too late for THIS fall but I recently did the Salty's Half Marathon in Seattle. It is right along Alki to Lincoln Park and back. Best course I've run thus far. Plus it's limited to 100 people and a really cool race environment.

The Seattle Marathon is an interesting course. Galer, Madison and the hills through the Arboretum might make you want to go nuts on the RD but who doesn't like a challenge Wink

I like the Magnuson Series, too. I can't say there is anything specifically special about their races but the course is fun, the entry fee is cheap and they have a race or two pretty much every month. Very no frills.

Cool.  I just signed up today.  Have you already registered?  If not, there is a schwaggle deal for discounted entry.

Well I was training for Seattle and my first full distance, however I will be on a business trip down under and will miss the race this year. I have been checking out several of the race sites and may do one the races while in Melbourne.

Good luck to everyone racing.

Mustache Dache Nov 17 for sure (I am helping promote it so if anyone wants some postcards, message me about it!).  It is THE event of the fall, sure to be fun!  I hope that I will be running 5k by then, I haven't run one step since my wreck on 10/2 but am feeling like I am ready to start.

First Call Running Club does free races on Veteran's Day weekend, New Years, and other days...I highly recommend them!  Usually a half, full and ultra offered.  http://firstcalltorunmarathon.blogspot.com/

12ks of Christmas is always great!  http://www.promotionevents.com/12Ks/12K_Info.htm

Not sure if you're still looking, but the Yukon Do It 1/2 or Full (2 laps) is a great, great race.  It's in Port Orchard, and the course is along the water a lot of the way - then through a state park and back.

I ran the 1/2 last year, was going to do the full this year, but ran out of time to ramp up to a full.  Will be doing the 1/2 again this year, and really looking forward to it.

Santa runs Tacoma was a fun race (I dressed as a big elf)

Christmas Fun run in Kent was also fun last year.
