I think you know the answer, and you won't get sympathy here.

Anybody need more popcorn?  I will add my 2 cents because its the internet and I guess that's what I am obligated to do.

1st cent- Its your body do whatever you darn well please.  But I feel tattoos should have meaning and purpose.  They should be beautiful art or tell a story about you or your past, not your future.  Some people get tattoos to honor loved ones after they have passed away.  You would not do that ahead of time and say...."Since I know you are going to die someday I tattooed a memorial on my bicep!"

2nd cent- For those who hate the M-Dot because its a corporate logo, that's fine.  But you cannot compare it to Coke or Pepsi.  It does not take a year of training to drink a coke.  The M-Dot at least requires discipline, goals and has some meaning behind it.  For me, chasing the M-Dot has changed my life for the better and the same cannot be said for when I used to chase the McDonalds logo.

I wont even wear the swim cap (during training) I got from my first attempt at an IM because I DNF'd.  I couldn't imagine getting the tattoo prior to finishing.

OK it's a corporate logo folks... yes its stupid if you have not done a 140.6 but the whole only Kona finishers get the right to have the tat is just as much out to lunch as the OP. The world of triathlon does not revolve around Kona anymore, Kona is one major race on the Calender.

kstater39 - 2012-10-27 9:15 PMI love it when people make stuff up just to pi$$ people off in the forum. This one is classic. My fav was the one where someone asked if anyone else pooped their pants vs stopping at a Porto potty when on the bike. Sometimes you just have to hope people are joking.. I think they are in both cases.

I said earlier in this thread that I believe the OP is a troll, but I personally saw Poopman at IMFL 2010.

Perhaps but, I didn't finish and don't want to be asked about how I did.

Holy Crap! (Pun intended) Poopman! Yell

I cannot unsee that!

In regard to the tattoo, people are going to inquire about which race you did, how you did etc etc. You will need to answer.

After IMWI in 2009 I was going to get an M-dot. It was my motivating force. I don't have any other tattoos and I was looking forward to getting inked to commemorate my accomplishment.

About a week after the race, I was standing in the mirror, looking at myself, trying to figure out where I wanted to put this permanent reminder... and I couldn't find a suitable place.

So I bought a pendant instead. I figured I can always take it off (unlike a tattoo) and it wasn't going to sag or discolor.

It's small. It's mostly just for me. No one really knows what it is, and no one asks about it... except fellow triathletes.

I wont even wear a race t-shirt until I've finished. There's no way I'd get a tattoo of something I haven't earned.

But I also don't let other people make my decisions. If you want the tattoo, get it. It doesn't matter what internet strangers think of you. It matters what you think of you.

I know a guy that got an Army Ranger tattoo before he went to Ranger school...needless to say, he had a pretty rough go of it from the actual Rangers.....he didn't graduate Ranger school.....tough tattoo to have to explain all the time.....

Wow, that's a relief. I was worried that you wouldn't finish for the past year or so.

Congratulations and I will echo some of the more positive messages here. It is your body and no one needs to give you permission to do whatever you want with it. However, I have always been someone that doesn't even wear race T-shirts until I have completed the race, so I wouldn't have felt I had "earned" the tattoo. But, that is just my personal preference. Who cares what I think or anyone else here thinks. Since you asked the question though, you know you will get some of the feedback, including negative feedback, that you got here. Just part of the deal. Good luck with your next one.

can you define "not that bad" , or better yet, define how good the challenge was...... I admire your confidence and in no way think it is arragance .. you obvious had done your training and had no doubt you could complete the challenge...Your getting the tat in advance could be looked at as a convience and well deserved.

Man I'd like to train and race with you sometime..
