I've never done a Duathlon, but this one goes through my hometown. I'm trying to get some other folks to do it as well. Has anyone done this? Any tips?

Is this the one in Greenville 2/23?  Did not know about this, but just looked it up on Setup Events.

Looks cool.  Living/racing in New England, I've done some Duathlons (back in the day they were still called Biathlons).

Practice by doing several repeats, run/bike/run/bike/run at shorter distances (e.g. Run 1/2 mile, Bike 2 miles).  We are all used to the sensation of running after the bike.  However running before the bike can make your ride and 2nd run a little interesting.  You would not think it, but the 2nd run can be very tough due to fatigue from the 1st.  Swimming does not have nearly the same affect.

Hope to do this race myself, thanks for giving a heads up.

sounds like fun. I might try to schedule it in. Never did a race in winter though, might have to get some more gear, darn

It is the one on the 23rd. Thanks for the run/bike/run/bike tips. I'll have to do a couple and see how much it wrecks my legs. For that matter I need to get on the bike as well.

I just found out the date for the race has been changed to 2/16/2013. This fits my schedule much better.

I did this last year(the first year for the race). The bike is pretty hilly especially the way back. It was very small last year(< 40 racers). Overall a nice, low key early season race. The 2 mile runs are 2 loops around a park.

It was a chilly day in Piedmont. I was 2nd in my age group but I think the cold weather kept some of the fast people out of the race plus the lead group of cyclist (8 total) were directed off course by a Policeman and ended up with DQs. The cold weather really affected my mental judgement. I ran out of T2 with my helmet on and had to turn back. It cost me a couple of minutes. I also forgot to put my race number in front at the finish. I wasn't penalized so it didn't matter. Overall it is a decent early season race and the weather was tolerable. It could have been worse and it could have been better but it was what it was. Next up- Tri-Charleston

I was thinking of you guys yesterday morning and was wondering if they were still holding the race.

Sounds like an interesting event, like you said it was a nice first race, you got it under your belt and time to move on to the next one.
