Subject: Newton Shoes?
I recently was given a pair of Newton Distance S running shoes, which seem drastically different than any other shoes out there. Does anyone have experience with Newton shoes?

I've been running in the for a few years now and absolutely love them!

You should've received a note in the box as well with a plan how to adapt to them.... just putting them on and going running as you always have can be very tough on your body and in worst case lead to injury. If you're a natural mid-foot striker to start with, then you'll be fine, if not, you have some adaption to do.

What model do you use? I'm a forefoot striker who, despite my toes out running style, is a fairly neutral runner. I was sent the Distance S model. Do you think it'd be better to send them back for a regular Distance model?

Distance S is the stability version of the Distance... do you need the added stability?

I'm using Distance (used to be my racing shoe and did quite a bit of training runs in it as well, now it's only for shorter training), Gravity (my new training shoe, have two pairs that I switch between), Terra (the trail running shoe) and MV2 (my race shoe)

if you want to change your running stride such that you're landing mid-foot to fore-foot, then Newton's will certainly do the trick... in fact they pretty much force you to, as the reward for heal striking is a shock.

I used them for a while and took advantage of their 30 day money back guarantee.  I'm happy with my current stride and found them too stressful on my achilles- which is my weak link.  I also found them really difficult to run down steep hills in, as you can't brake with your heels.  Plus, I was in the middle of marathon training and I didn't want to mess with what was working.

that said- they're really pretty cool in how they work.  there's certainly something to them.

be careful tho.  you might really like them- and they're very expensive.

My wife and I both switched to newtons last year and couldn't be happier. We each put several hundred miles on them, initially I was concerned about the durability factor but they held up very well. The pair I wear is the gravity and I just love them.

I went through 4 different brands trying to find some help with shinn splints. I found the Newtons fall of 2010 and have had 5 pair sense. I use the distance S as well and love them. No pain, only down side is $$$$$$ and I only get about 200-225 miles before outside right lugg is flat, but I order two at a time and love them. Just did 26.2 and while everything south of waist hurt feet and shines all good. Marc

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I actually won the shoes from myList during the Ironman Kona webcast. I'm considering exchanging the Distance S's for a regular pair of Distance. I typically wear adidas supernova classics or supernova glides, but I want to try these Newtons out since they are free. Just a bit worried about injury or changing my stride.
