Holy Crap.  I just signed up for Ironman Arizona on 9-Apr-2005.  I have 41 weeks to get myself ready to race an Ironman.  To this point in my life I have:

never ran a marathon

never rode more than 50 miles at once on a bike

never swam more than 1200 meters without stopping, nor 2300 meters in a single session

But I have faith in my ability and my determination.  I am going to finish Ironman Arizona!

All right!! I'm so impressed (and jealous). I'm going to do my best to go volunteer for it, so I look forward to meeting you! (o: Though I imagine you'll have other things on your mind!

Congrats, and way to take the plunge!

Holy Crap is one expression I might use, there might be others when I eventually get the guts to sign up for one.  Congrats, 41weeks, plenty of time.......but if you are reading this you might think about starting that training.  Good luck I hope to hear about your successes along the way.

Hope you have a great journey getting to and finishing the Ironman AZ.

It’s hard for me to imagine doing an Ironman at all, but then again, it was hard for me to imagine doing a TRI at all just a few months ago. Goals are a powerful thing. Good luck. I’m sure I’ll volunteer to help for this race as well.

I am sooo envious!  I wanna hear all about it as you train.  41 weeks is plenty of time to make sure you kick butt!

So what training plan are you going to use?

Wow!!! Good for you!!! I can't even imagine doing a 1/2 IM right now, so a full is just WOW!!!

Hey Lara, maybe a trip to the warm climes of Arizona would be just about right for me in April!!! I could get into that action, maybe volunteer and meet all you great triathletes!!!
Maybe we should have our little (or big) BT Let's Meet Convention in Arizona in April???
Any takers???

It's funny.  Six months ago, I had only vague thoughts of ever competing in a triathlon.  Now, I have progressed from being iffy as to whether or not to do a Half Ironman this year to signing up for an Ironman!  I have wanted to do an IM, but thought that it would be in a couple of years.  HOWEVER, by buddy from Lufkin and my brother-in-law both signed up for Arizona, so I thought this would be a great adventure for us to undertake together.  Holy Crap.

Training plan?  I have not settled on that yet.  I have a plan set out for the next 11 weeks to get me to the TexasMan Half-Ironman.  After that, I have a vague notion that I am going to work on my aerobic base for the rest of September, October and November.  Beginning in January, I will start active preparations.  One of the goals along the way is the Houston Marathon on 16-Jan.  Should be a piece of cake, right?  One of the things that convinced me I could do an IM was reading the descriptions of the training plans on www.trainingbible.com.  One is "13-Hour Ironman in 13 weeks".  It's highest volume week is 13 hours of training, and I have time for tha, and maybe a little more!  I guess you don't have to train 30 hours a week for an IM.  But I still have some research to do there.

Thanks to all of you for your kind words and encouragement!  I would be glad to meet any of you guys out there in April.  We just need to set a time and place.
