Has anyone tried these plans? Looking in particular at the "Break 3:15" plan at http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-238-591--14375-0,00.html

Are they all 16 week based? Any good?

I tried the smart trainer one from Runners world once and I didn't find it very helpful. It had me running slower than I am used and I think it eventually just made me get used to running slower....

I did my BQ in 2009 following the advanced plan.  It wasn't fun, but the speedwork really paid dividends.

I used one of their half marathon plans a couple of years ago and had great success with it.  Since I haven't done a full marathon I can't speak to those plans.

I used one a couple years ago that was designed to help you get a certain half marathon time.  It worked, and I made my goal.

I used one for HM.  I did not make my goal.  I was very close.  But the HM was at 3pm and it was unseasonably warm with headwinds.  I really think if the conditions had been ideal and if the race had been in the morning I would have made the goal.

I used the Runners World Beginner Marathon plan for my first one and it got me a 3:22.

I used the Runners World Custom plan (it was still free-don't know if this is still true) for my second one and it got me to 3:04.

Yes. The plans work just fine. If you follow the plan and do the work then it will get you to the finish line.

I tend to be a strong runner and be able to embrace the suck pretty well so your results might be slightly different but I have nothing but good things to say about their plans.

They used to have a series of "ultimate" training plans that I really like.  Since they went to the pay wall for the plans, those aren't available anymore.  I'm assuming they didn't have the licensing rights from the original author to charge for the plans individually.

Fortunately, I still have copies of the 10k, half marathon, and marathon plans.  Each one has a beginner, intermediate, and advanced option.  I used the Ultimate Marathon advanced plan for my marathon PR of 3:32 back in 2008.  I'm doing it again right now with the goal of a BQ 3:25 in Vegas on December 2nd.

Doing the intermediate plan right now for Disney Jan 2013.  I like the plan. I won't know if it works, until I toe the line and stagger across finish. First M for me.
