Has there been any talk of a potential group ride along the race course sometime next spring? I know it may be a bit soon but I guess it couldn't be to early to have something on the radar...

(No, I didn't just volunteer myself for something! lol)

My 70.3 training starts 2/1. That said I'm thinking of a New Year's Day ride of the course.

There has been mention of rides in the other threads, but we can make this one the "official" thread.

fgump, keep us up to date.  A New Years Day ride sounds interesting.

Thanks

I rode the whole route soon after it was announced.  My suggestion would be to skip the part on NC-55 if you do ride it.  It was very sketchy being open to traffic.  With a lane closed for the race, it won't be a problem, but it is not safe to ride on otherwise.

If we time it right on NYD, the traffic should be mild to nonexistent.  That said, there may be some erratic drivers still making it home from their festivities...

Will definitely keep in touch on this post.

55 is the fun section...especially with the construction going on. was on that stretch of road several times during my ironman training.

To the top...

New Year's Day ride of the course? 1/1/13, say 10am rollout?

We can coordinate having a few cars downtown with bike racks to get back out to Jordan Lake (I can probably volunteer my wife's which can hold 3-4 bikes depending on frame layout), with a ~1pm lunchtime   Bonus points if anyone wants to ride out to Vista Point from Apex for extra distance.

I'll be riding it but probably not till Spring time.  You all may know Stacey Richardson.  She is putting together some group workouts for this race and I'm going to do as many as I can.  Her first one is this Sunday at 8am at the UNC track w/ no drop in fee.  She is also doing a discounted coaching program for it http://www.tristacey.com/raleigh-70-3-training/

Glad to hear that there are others like me who don't mind the cold. I am definitely interested in the 1-1-13 ride. It would also be interesting to meet local BTers.

I'm also interested in the 1-1-13 ride and may be able to recruit some others as well.  As far as the weather goes, it might not be too cold if you go by conditions of the past couple of New Years Day weather.  Knock on wood........

Green light for 1/1/13 ride from the boss (wife) and other boss (the one I work for).  Also planning to join include some local friends I've been riding with for years, who are either 1) coming out of triretirement or 2) going short this season (some did B2B, some did Placid, some did IMWI).

It will be a fun day on the bikes!

Now, if anyone wants to make it interesting and toss in a few miles worth of run post-ride, I might be tempted.

I checked, and the Oxford is closed on 1/1 all day, so that's out for a lunch spot.  I'll do some snooping and find a place that'll accept a bunch of sweaty, potentially chilly, and loud triathletes.

This BT n00b would love to join the NYD ride... and anyone who feels like riding it before and /or after hit me up!

*edit* Pace?  I'd be hoping to ride 19-20.

Pace will depend on who shows up and how fast they want to go.  The course may dictate the pace (fast front half, but the hills will rise up 2nd half).  May even be multiple pace groups.

All have a safe and good ride out there. Wish I could join, but I will be in Raleigh picking up family from Aussie on 12/31 and then headed back to Wilmington with said family.

Look forward to hearing thoughts on the route.

Im a big fat tentative due to a snapped chain on my rig and dependent upon motivation to get to the store to replace it.

Unfortunately, I'm now a no go. Work ruined this ride for me. We should try to schedule a ride once a month or so. With the course being in our backyard, it's a great opportunity to scout out the course and ride with some awesome people!

Alright guys, need a commitment here.  If you're not coming, that's okay, but I need to make plans with the folks who are local and not on BT.  So far, I have japarker24 as a 50/50, same for halfpint, and don't know about winegeek.  If you're all not coming, I'll just ride out from home and catch the course out on Beaver Creek.

Post back you intentions please.

Thanks,

Bill

Guys,

Since the weather is looking bad for tomorrow, and really there's not a lot of interest from this group in riding, I'm cancelling the ride for tomorrow.

Happy New Year!

I was interested in the ride myself. It looks like it would require a first light start and still run the risk of getting rained on toward the end. Bummer..

has anyone been out to try the course ride yet and/or thoughts of getting some group rides in since the 1/1/13 ride went south? also, since 55 is sketchy at best, any thoughts on substitute portions for that part of the route?
