Subject: Good Tri Coach N Atlanta Area?
I am looking for a good coach in the N Atlanta area that could help me and my wife train for an Olympic and HIM next year. Any good recommendations?

It all depends if you want a "hands on" coach or some good "online guidance" with feedback? Most all will provide you with a TrainingPeaks account and a workout schedule, they key is to find a coach that you will listen to and help you grow as an athlete.

Coaching groups and some info:

Dynamo Multisport: Based in Chamblee with Masters Swimming and Indoor Computrainer Classes run out of the Dynamo Swim Center there. I coach for Dynamo but I am based around Perimeter Center Mall (NE-ish Atlanta). Main Shop Sponsor is All3sports.

Sports Factory: (already mentioned): Up in Roswell with indoor cycling and a bunch of other stuff. They have their own "pro shop" now too. They utilize Swim Atlanta for swimming I believe.

Endurance Concepts: Based in the lower end of NE Atlanta, Cadence is their Shop Sponsor and they also offer cycling classes. Most of their athletes swim at Dynamo Masters.

PT Sports Solutions: Upper GA, a bunch of new coaches that just left the Sports Factory (if that tells you anything). I do believe they also offer cycling classes but I'm not sure of the location.

Energy Lab: The main coaching group for the Atlanta Tri Club, based around Emory, Podium Multisport is their shop sponsor and they also offer cycling classes.

Then there are others that I don't know too much about, i.e. Blue Iron Coaching.

So to answer your question, there are plenty of groups and Coaches in your immediate area. I suggest you check out their webpage and inquire further with those you are interested in. However I would also suggest reaching out to several of them and interviewing/meet with a coach from each program in order to see which one is best fit for you. Don't just sign with the 1st company you meet with that has a good sales pitch.

Most people will suggest that if you want a good Masters Swim program then the Dynamo Chamblee location is top notch and Maria (on deck coach) cannot be matched in skill and drive.

Please feel free to reply in this post with more questions or email me directly with any other questions or if you'd like to sit down and have a chat. [email protected]

Best of luck in this endeavor but so far you've made a good 1st step.

Hi,

Live in the Western burbs of Chicago and thinking about moving to GA.  Have been doing a lot of reading on the area.  Going to miss the riding Ironman Wi course but looks like GA has great riding.

Thanks for the great info!!!  Kate~

Shanks included everything you need to know and then some.  But I will re-emphasis one thing he said:

Meet with more than one coach before making your decision.  Also, as you've done here, ask around.  Coaching is about having a good relationship with your coach.

Kate,

Plenty of good riding around here... The Gaps, Silk Sheets, Cartersville, Columns (for intervals or if you're crazy enough to ride more than 2 hours on this 5 mile out and back), Silver Comet, and a bunch of other places I have yet to discover.

Great advice! Then meet with more than one of their athletes who are no longer with him or her and one that is with him or her to get even more info. I think we all should be open books and transparent about our success and failures. An informed consumer is the best client.

I highly recommend Zero Drag Sports.  Several different coaches that should meet your and your wife's needs.

Also, I recommend the East Cobb Swim Atlanta masters program.  Meets weekdays at noon.  They have a new coach and he has done wonders for my and my husbands swim ability.

You have several masters options - Swim Atlanta has a pools in Roswell and East Cobb, Stingrays swims out of the Mountain View Aquatic Center in East Cobb, Lifetime Fitness in Kennesaw and Alpharetta, and there are probably more.  Someone else suggested this, but check out each group's website and see which is the best fit for you. The Mtn View pool is the best swim facility, but I don't know about any of the coaching.
