Subject: Run training plan needed for an IM

I am doing the IMAZ 2013.

The longest that I have ever run was the 13.1 at the 2012 Timberman 70.3. t took me 2:12:58, and my quads were pretty tired at the end. I only ran up to 8 miles during training, so I wasn't surprised by the results. I know that I need to do more for a full, but I need a structured training plan. I'm not a great runner by any means, my 5K's are always at a pace of 8:30-8:45, that's just where I run at. So realistically, my IM time will be ~5 hrs, maybe more, if all goes well.

I've read about a couple of plans on these forums, but I can't recall their names.

Can anyone recommend a good IM run training plan?

Thanks

I used the plan on this site. Be iron fit is another good one. A decent predictor if your well trained, is double your half time and add 1.5 hrs. This only works if you push through barriers and your well trained. If you walk most of the marathon it will be much longer. I ran up to 20 mi when training for my first im. Good luck

I have my first full distance this Saturday and have been using don fink's, be iron fit. I've seen tremendous results in my running. Although, I didn't follow the heart rate zone stuff to the T. I was a casual runner before, and did a HM with my wife a couple of years ago and did about a 8:19 per mile pace. My last long run after doing Finks plan was 21 miles which I did at a 7:28 per mile pace. Also did a 15 miler the next week to start my taper and ran a 6:52 pace. I guess just the increase in volume has been what was key to get faster. Just my .02.

A lot of your run will depend on your bike fitness and IM bike.

I ran a 3:50 marathon spring 2009 (that's an 8:46 pace) -- and then a 5:15 marathon at IMCOZ later that fall. I totally underestimated how exhausted I would be at the end of the bike !

There are a lot of good plans right here on BT

Exactly what trishie said.  A lot of your run time will depend on how well trained you are on the bike.
