We have 2 squat racks in our gym and yesterday they were both occupied by guys talking to each other.  A 10 minute set becomes a half hour. Shut up and exercise.

Yeah I had evening social talkers the other night.  9:30 at night and I had to wait for a lane in the pool because people in all the lanes except one were doing everything but swimming laps.  There was a couple in one lane alternating walking laps and sitting on the edge of the pool while the other one walked a lap.

Finally the one guy who was actually working out finished his set and I got to swim.  Not really a big deal except the rest of the gym was empty.  Everyone had decided to play in the pool at 9:30

Interesting that you assume the pool walkers were not "actually working out" - ever consider the fact that people are different than you and might have different goals?

Absolutely but the fact that they were taking turns sitting on the edge of the pool while the other person walked, put that thought right out of my head.  The lane is big enough for both of them to be walking.

Sitting on the edge of the pool and taking time to talk to your girlfriend between walking laps is no different than hanging around with your buddies at any of the machines and b.s.ing between sets.

Amen.  It's 5am.  The place just opened.  I have to run an hour on the treadmill and then get some lifting in.  Leave me alone.

Also, for the weirdo who likes to sing while he's on the elliptical, read my lips...

LOL!!!

Become the guy who grunts whilst rowing. People will avoid you at all costs.

Now, in fairness, most people are pretty darn good. The 5:00 AM crowd is usually just there to do their thing and get to work. It isn't social hour.

I guess that makes the one person who does keep asking you questions stand out even more.

Now, the kicker: It was cool out yesterday morning and kind of misty so I wore a lucky shirt over my t-shirt to run to the gym. So my lucky shirt is kinda old-ish. I take my long sleeve lucky shirt off when I get to the gym and put it on a chair near the machines I was using. The lady in the gym cleaning the place grabs my shirt and throws it in the trash. Bonus: My keys were in the shouler pocket.

Fiddlesticks.

Luckily she fished it out after I asked what happened to it.

It's funny you say that.  Spending all day in a gym, there are definitely different crowds at different times of day.

Early morning crowd - Serious workout people.  Nothing gets in the way of their workout.  Not even sleep deprivation.  Don't even think about getting in their way.

Mid morning crowd - Stay at home moms, unemployed people, and retirees.  Still fairly serious, but they're not usually on a tight schedule.  They will bend your ear if you give them the chance.  Sometimes you may even need to chew off your own arm to get away.

Lunch crowd - not quite as serious as the morning crowd, but they don't mess around either.  These people can't be bothered to get out of bed at 4 a.m. to work out, but they will sacrifice their lunch hour to get a little sweaty.  They're always in a hurry to get back to work within the hour.

1:00-3:00 afternoon crowd - 3rd shift workers, unemployed, and anyone who really wants to work out alone.  These people can a little like the mid-morning crowd, but dichotomous.  They will either talk to you until your ears bleed, or walk the other way whenever someone inadvertantly walks their direction.

Evening crowd - This can be like happy hour at a bar.  Sometimes it's hard to tell whether some people are there to work out or socialize.
