Smith Falls, Ontario
Canada
Somersault Events
70F / 21C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 28m 37s
Overall Rank = 224/257
Age Group = 50-59
Age Group Rank = 10/10
Pre-race routine:

Set up in the transition area. Made sure everything was there and ready.
Event warmup:

Took the bike out for a short run to ensure that all was okay.
Swim
  • 12m 20s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 28s / 100 meters
Comments:

I did not do enough swim training in the last month. I must remedy that. This was my first tri swim with a wet suit (Body Glove) and I found it to be a help!
What would you do differently?:

Train a bit more ... :)
Transition 1
  • 03m
Comments:

Very slow putting on my socks and shoes and stuff. I forgot to take my gels with me.
What would you do differently?:

Not much else I can do, I am just slow in putting on my shoes and socks and stuff.
Bike
  • 40m 14s
  • 20 kms
  • 29.83 km/hr
Comments:

I could have gone just a tad faster.
What would you do differently?:

I would not coast the last 100 meters in order to clip out of my pedals safely.
Transition 2
  • 02m
Run
  • 30m 57s
  • 5 kms
  • 06m 11s  min/km
Comments:

I took a power gel before the run but it did not kick in until the 3rd or 4th km. That first km took me an eternity. I did pick up as each km passed but too late to do any good ... although I did finish with a nice kick.
What would you do differently?:

Ingest a power gel long before I finish the bike leg.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I am old and slow and of course, I still had cramps from yesterday's bout of food poisoning.

Event comments:

This was the 27th running of this annual race. It is the oldest tri in Canada and is always well run.
