Subject: Running but getting slower
I'd like suggestions on training for speed on the run. I recently moved to California (the low desert area)  from Texas and have noticed that my run times have actually gotten worse. I will say that my weekly running decreased significantly but I can't even keep the same pace, and it seems that if I go out 3x week each run is a little slower than the one before.  I went back to Texas a couple weeks ago and decided to try running my old route and I had one of my fastest runs. I know the air density is thicker there. If anyone has suggestions other than HTFU, which I am currently working on, it would be much appriciated.

Well, uh, there you have it.  If you run less, it's very likely that you'll get slower.  Try to gradually increase your miles per week, try to increase the frequency of your runs (5-6/wk if you can manage) and run consistently for a few months and you'll see returns.

could be how you are training.  if you are going too hard each run, it's leaving you fatigued and not recovered for the next run that you're going to hard on... and so on.  And, if your volume has decreased- well, there ya' go.

In my experience so far- my speed is correlated, more than anything, with the number of miles I have run per week, for the last 4-6 months. 

Mostly easy, sometimes hard, and lotsa' volume.
