Very cool finishers mug... I did not sign up. I've heard some mixed reviews about how the event is run ...very curious to hear how this goes in Phoenix as I would likely sign up for next year

Plastic as can be actually.  Cousin ran it in Chicago and said it was one major FUBAR operation.  Even the fondue was frozen.  Pretty cool concept though if it is executed properly.  I think I'm done with gimmicky events, well except for RnR next month.

Anyone know of any cross country races in the Phoenix area?  All I seem to turn up online are events down in Tucson.

Cross country? You mean trail races? McDowell mountain frenzy in this weekend. There is an xterra race on jan 6 in the white tanks.. 20k and 7k(?) distances. I'm in for the 20

Nope, straight up cross country stuff.  However, I do run the 20K Xterra trail runs as well and will be at the White Tanks also.  Missed the White Tanks run last year (ran the other three) so I need to find a way to make it out to the training run too.

RAM Racing pulled off one of the most fun races I have participated at in the Valley.  Yes the jacket instead of shirt was different and the mug as plastic.  So what!

The crowds were great.  the course was well marked and every single mile marker of the 15K had the time clock on it.  I never saw that at PF Chang's R&R.

9.34 is an odd distance, but a perfect amount for those working up to a 1/2 mary in Jan/Feb or recovering from having the knee scoped at Thanksgiving.

That's great to hear they put on a good event.  Sounds like they have ironed out some of their past issues.  Can't say that I require timing every mile (that's what a watch is for) but better too much then not enough.

I was very impressed with how well it was run - especially given the problems in Chicago and DC! I took my running club kids (8-12 year olds) - we had 17 kids participate in the 5k (I did the 15k with several friends) and after hearing about the other events I was a little worried going into it.  However, at the end I had parents telling me it was their favorite event we have done as a group! Everything was so well organized - the kids had a great time, course was well marked, finish line was easy for parents/spectators, fantastic crowd control - from parking to corrals to picking up the finisher's mugs - it never felt like there were 10,000+ people there!  I would definitely do it again and not hesitate to take the kids back!
