Yes, I did take second place in my age group at a race this summer, but it was a tiny race, and I'm not even a registered USAT member. Just wondering if this is a thing or if it's one of those "your poetry has been published, now buy the book" deals.
Congratulations Kristin. You have qualified for the Olympic-Distance race at the 2013 USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships on August 10 in Milwaukee, Wis., after finishing in the top 10 percent in your age group at the Island Lake Triathlon, Summer. |

Can anyone describe the race conditions? Temps, humidity, etc?? The last 2 years it was held in Burlington, VT. 2013 is in Milwaukee. It's expected to be a fairly flat course (unless you're from Florida ). As for temps, humidity, likelihood of rain, etc, you'll just need to look up weather history for the region in August. |

It's a bummer because I live in nw Illinois and Millwauke is only a couple hours away. Guess that means I'll have to qualify this summer so I can make the 2014 roster. |

I did Portland in 2008, and will be back this year (Qualified in August). If you have the time and money, it is a blast. Your own personal Olympics for short course racing. |

The description of the expected course puts it within a few blocks of my wife's relatives, and we have a standing invitation to visit them. We haven't been to Milwaukee since 2003 for Harley Davidson's 100th anniversary celebration. It's a great city with a lot of fun things to do.

I got an email saying I qualified for olympic distance nationals due to placement in a race where I finished top 10%.....but that race was a sprint. I didn't even do any oly's in 2012. I felt like it must either be some sort of qualification change or a marketing thing because I've had way better seasons than last year and never received an email regarding qualification for races from USAT. |

It's too bad too, because I live in MA and was qualified last year, but had already signed up for Timberman, which was the same weekend. VT would have been much more doable. I suppose I'll wait it out and see where it ends up in 2015 and hope I can still qualify then... |

Second year I have qualified because of a small sprint 40 minutes from home. And heck, this year they had to change it to a DU because of the lake waves. Went to VT to do the Oly last year. Absolute blast. Thinking about just doing the Sprint this year. Especially since Milwaukee is only a 2 hour drive from home. It is definitely an experience. And the fast people there are ridiculously fast. Keep in mind, Nationals are also qualifiers for Worlds the next year. That's why there are so many wicked fast folks at it. |

I had no idea that I qualified, nor was this race on my radar or a thought, so needless to say I am surprised and excited to have gotten the invite. Since I live in Chicago, this will be an easy race for me to participate in, so I am in for next year as well. Just have to jungle around the training from a HIM two weeks prior... |
