Well, I'm not making you comment, but here's a link from the ESPN homepage...

Hall of 100

Apologies for failure to include a link.

I'll post as I read it, so you can bathe in my stream of consciousness . Full disclosure: I'm an O's fan, so I'm sure I'll be outraged by the placement of some O's greats.

Aaand right on cue: Palmer in the high 80's? Wow.
Surprised Roberto Alomar is only 73. He's arguably the best defensive 2B ever and could hit, too.
We'll see how this goes, but I'm not sure how you put the best relief pitcher in history (Rivera) at 67. I'd better see nothing but starting pitchers the rest of the way.
Eddie Murray? The only switch hitter ever with 3000 hits and 500 hr's? 65? Not even in the top half?
Al Kaline's name is spelled the same as the word "alkaline". Why have I never noticed that before? And why didn't his parents?
Koufax? 44? Koufax? Sandy Koufax?
Not happy about Brooks Robinson being 43, either, but I'll chalk that up to my Baltimore bias.
At least they put Ripken ahead of Jeter. Suck it, Yankee fans.
I don't think I'd put Randy Johnson ahead of both Seaver and Carlton.
Surprised George Sisler didn't make the list at all. He held the record for hits in a season for almost 100 years.

It's kind of like those top 500 songs of all time list. It's hard to argue too strenuously about it. Should someone be #51 instead of #35? How do you compare a pitcher from the 30's to a shortstop from today? Overall, I think they got most of the top 100 guys on the list, and you can't really argue with (SPOILER ALERT) The Babe being at #1.

I was very happy to see they got it right at #1.

Obviously, the entire process is so subjective...but honestly, I think they did a pretty darn good job.  Bonds is definitely top 10.  I see they value Rickey Henderson as much as I do...one of the best lead-off hitters (if not the best) ever.  I've always been a big fan of on-base %...even before it became vogue!

I also loved seeing Schmidt valued on there.  So many folks get caught up in the trap of comparing stats "apples to apples" across eras...the dude dominated in a dead-ball era...much respect!

They are overrating the current players (pujols, jeter) and underrating the catchers (irod, fisk, bench, berra, cochrane, campanella)

It's such a subjective thing.
Just think of the poor hitters doomed to play in deadball eras like the '70's.
Seeing names like Clemens and Bonds in the top 25 just makes me sad. While I still believe they should be there, there should be asterisks next to their names.
