Well, the rumors were true; they did shorten the OLY (announced about 7:45 AM). The race looked like this: 1500m swim, 21.7 mi bike, 3 mi run. Weird. I was pissed off at first but once I got on the run, my body was thankful. It was brutally hot, especially the little out and back on the bridge that goes over Nokomis. It must've been well over 100F on that stretch.

Congrats to you all who suffered the heat, especially the sprint folks who had to wait 'til almost 11:00 am to start. Hopefully, we won't have to deal with those conditions ever again.

Cheers!

Tom

Congratulations to all you BT'ers who finished and beat Mother Nature on this race!  I ran it yesterday.  Hit that CEdar Street Bridge on the run (Can you say MULTIPLE FRIED EGGS?) and about melted.

I ran the sprint, and was REALLY glad that I had registered for the sprint, instead of the OLY.  Bummer that they shortened the OLY, but sounds like it was the right move.  I heard in the heat last year the took over 60 raceres to the hospital!  OUCH!

Looking forward to everyone's RR's

 Congratulations to ALL!

i was also a bit disappointed... but to no avail... the heat was simply the killer.. and doing a 10k in 100+ degree weather would have been devastating.. last year is wasn't quite as hot and LTF got pretty bad press .. so given that they likely mitigated the risk this year and played it safe.. which is good... im doing turtleman next.. which is like the half-baked LTF oly this year... those sky drivers were pretty cool!

Yes. Only age group oly racers got their race course shortened. I was on the beach by the spectator stand when I heard the announcer.

Touching moment: The sound system stopped working midway through the national anthem. Without missing a beat, the public started singing and together we finished the song gloriously. It was pretty cool.
