So I know this plea will be futile but I'm making it anyway:

This thread is not about whether or not you think guns are good or evil or if you think there should or should not be a ban.  We've discussed that in other threads, let's try to keep it there.  Please.

--------

So, with the recent talk about a possible (probable) ban coming down the road, has anyone purchased anything they normally would not have.  Some are seeing it as a financial investment.  Others as a "get them while you can" mentality.

Or course every store is flooded with orders and most are out of stock on just about everything. You cannot find a 5.56/.223 magazine anywhere.

On a side note what do you expect the inevitable ban to include?  A revival of the Clinton era ban?  Something more restrictive?

I will say that for the first time in our lives, my wife and I are considering buying a gun-- and she's the one pushing the purchase.

My household is a bit different.  I'm pro, the wife is not.  I JUST about had her into going with me to shoot and getting one for the house.  I had a great argument as well that she bought off on.

Now?  I'm probably the same.  She is now OFF the fence (I at least got her ON the fence about getting one) and back to "no way".

I even have to admit.  In light of all of this.  I'm not as excited about it either.  I don't think their bad, but lost some of the excitment about the prospect.

Kneejerk reaction makes we want to go get a "black gun" while I still can. Reality, I've lived this long without one.

Our house has no interest in owning a gun.  I do believe in gun ownership, for responsible recreational people or hunters. (Non semi or automatic military type guns)  I would like to go shoot some at the range sometime, but as for owning one in our home, No need...

This thread also remindes me of other thoughts I have had.

I wonder what the public opinion fallout is going to be.  Well shows like Suns of Guns or American Guns take a ratings hit.

I was watching the military channel the other night about the top 10 guns...  So it doesn't seem like they are making any progaming changes (nor would I want them to).

Gun and ammo sales have been great over the last five years, the more there's talk of restrictions, the higher sales go.  There will be some legal/law action on guns, more for show then real impact on reducing gun purchases.  Been thinking about getting one for runs and rides since there are often vicious dogs out there.  However, I carry pepper spray and the times that I've been chased all I could think of was taking off as fast as possible and could have never had the spray out in time to help.  Probably would just end up shooting my bike!

Last week (before the school shooting) I got three containers of .223 and .22 WMR ammo for Chirstmas and I know there are several magazines under the tree too. I've been looking around and watching other people's experiences, seems like .223 has gone thru the roof in price and hard to find. I've been thinking of picking up a .22 WMR rifle for range fun now. Cheaper ammo, matches my current favorite pistol.

My weekly range time this week I bailed on, just too sick to my stomach. Not sure when I'll go back at this point.

Have not formed any opinions what any possible changes will be. I'd start to guess on stricter background checks, lower capacity magazines, and general public disdain for any tactical looking firearm. If something like banning .223/5.56 semi auto rifles comes up that just seems silly when I can go to the local range and see tons and tons of .308, 300, 7.62x39 (and bigger) cases, 12 gauge rifle shells... laying around. I could end up with "pre-ban" rifles that are today's current ones, and future ones that have some changes and lower capacity magazines. I'm not sure what change would be made to a "post ban" AR style rife, it's just semi automatic rifle at the end of the day. Something like what Europe does with certain caliber rounds are "military" only could be interesting. Then we would end up with slightly smaller and larger variants of existing rounds (which are here today).

My wife has wanted a new pistol for a while now and we both have our conceal carry permits, I can see us speeding up getting her a new pistol. I have been toying with .22LR and .22 WMR bolt action rifles for cheap range fun, could still see getting one of those but no change to my schedule.

I have several guns already (and an AR) but I picked up a Beretta CX4 just because I've always wanted one.  But really never enough to buy it.

However I feel we won't be able to get them in the near future so I sprung for it.  The wife was all for it.  In fact this rifle fits her perfectly.

My guess is they will bring back the (utterly pointless) "look and feel" Clinton ban plus put a restriction on capacity of magazines (10).  Maybe even limit ammo sales to 100 rounds at a time?

My wife and I finally signed up for and completed our concealed carry course after the election. Applied for them a few weeks before the Sandy Hook incident. Figured they will only make it harder to get.

I may or may not have made some purchases. Not gonna blab on the internet about it at this point.

Nah, about six months ago I got the urge to pick something new up and came to the conclusion there's nothing out there I really want that I don't have.

I'm STILL kicking myself in the butt for not picking up a few dozen SKSs with the built in folding bayonet at $80/ea in 1992 when I had the chance.

I honestly hate the AR-15/M4 but I'm thinking about picking one up just for grins and giggles. If I find one around that someone's selling that calls to me, I just might.

I just bought a Springfield XDS .45 today, but I was planning on getting that for xmas for the last couple months.

I was planning to get an AR style rifle next summer, but due to the recent potential of a new AWB I bought a Colt SP6940 on Gunbroker Wednesday.  Paid a few hundred more than what it was going for last week, but figured it was good insurance.  Hopefully the seller doesn't flake out on me due to the prices shooting through the roof.  Same gun is going for a few thousand over what I paid for it already.

Don't worry, if can't buy here, China and other countries ship mail all day every day.  You will need to maintain the parts better!  Build your own so to speak.

I signed up for a class to get my CC permit... it is full until March.

I ordered two more 13 rd mags for my XD.

I have spent the last 3 days trying to find a .308 lower. I figured I would have the lower and build it later. There is none, no how, no way, anywhere. Everything is completely sold out. I don't really want a .223, and I am not in a position to buy a whole rifle right now... and there are not many of those left. So much for that.

been thinking of doing an AR build for a while, but even with the current state of things i'm not rushing out to do it.  i figure 1 of 2 things will happen.

1) something else big happens and media/political focus shifts off of this and nothing happens.

2) AWB will take effect again, similar to clinton era ban but more restrictive since that one never got renewed due to it ultimately having no affect.

I already own a rifle (BAR .338) a shotgun, 16 ga. and now am going to purchase a .44 with a cwp.  I'm just 1/100th away from the Hank Jr. song, on a side note.

Another Side note, maybe not for this thread, but I strongly feel if every RESPONSIBLE adult would carry, mass shootings would not occur.  I've seen enough evidence of this on you tube and back channel news story's where crime is about to occur, and the last thing the criminals expect is a citizen with a weapon that nuetralizes the threat.

I feel a civic duty to help protect my arena of society by carrying.  I just wish many more RESPONSIBLE adults felt the same way.

Another side not, Anyone have any experience with the charter arms bulldog .44?

You have more confidence in the ability of congress to do anything than I do.

W/R/T changes in the law, I don't expect much. My wish list would be the banning of high capacity magazines, with a buy-back of any that are out there now; ditto for kevlar-piercing bullets. I'm not too keen on semi-automatic weapons, but if the number of bullets you could fire before reloading was limited, I think that would go a long way. I'd also favor a database of owners, so we could more easily recover guns from people who have been involuntarily committed, instead of just preventing future purchases; and could also be looking more easily at guns registered at that same address (so if guns are available in the house the issue could be dealt with - even if it is to ensure they are locked). And limits on the transferring of ownership of guns. Gun show purchases, selling to your friend, whatever, should be at least as stringent.

As for changes in the gearboy household, I would not be averse to owning some firearms for target shooting. But (a) mrs gearboy would not let me keep them in the house, (b) I could spend that money elsewhere, especially since (c) I have a couple of friends with large collections already who will take me to the range whenever they are going (similar to my lending them gear for other shared activities); and finally (d) - see (a).
