Ran McAlpine, as we know it, for the last time this morning.  Those of you in the Charlotte area are probably familiar with the trails down there.  Supposed to be closed for the next two years and when it reopens the trails will be all paved.

I've logged a lot of miles there.  Just about all my long training runs for marathons were done there and set a lot of personal benchmarks there as well.  Going to miss those trails!

Join the paved side and head over to McMullen Greenway!

I have never really run McAlpine but I know a lot people that do.

I never beent o McAlpine but I feel your pain. I am always trying to find new places to run that are not paved (and I get bored easily). Not sure how far South you are, but some great places to run are Latta Plantation in Huntersville and Fisher Farm Park in Davidson. Fisher farm is mostly single track mountain bike trails but I hardly ever come accross any mountain bikers.  I only pound the pavement if I have no other choice.

Ran there yesterday. Do you know when the work is supposed to begin? Also, i heard there's a petition to stop this, let me know if you run across it.

They are leaving the 5k course as it is.  They are also not doing any construction during the 5k championship meets so they can go on as planned.  They only part they are really paving (from what I read) is the main trail along the creek.

Is McAlpine actually closed right now?  I only spent about 30 seconds with google but I couldn't find much about specific dates... except for a few links saying construction should start in late 2011 and be finished sometime in 2012, which may be old information.

Would like to run there tomorrow if parking is available and the trails are still there.

It was open as of 1/26.  I don't think it is supposed to be closed until mid-late 2013.  Most of the 5-k trial will be untouched (aside from the part that runs by the creek).  Construction will not going on during cross country season so the races will still be held there.  Stinks cause i just bought a house in the area and this park was a big reason why
