tri_warrior - 2013-05-10 4:16 AM It will be nice if it gets to 60 but I think mid 50's is probably more likely.

I am afraid you are right.

Luckily, it's a short swim.  I am hoping to get it done in under 12 minutes, maybe even under 10.

Only 3 days away. Looks like air temperature will be about 60 at race start with light winds. I hope the water temperature is at least that. Good luck everyone!

Same sentiments here.  Luckily the weather between now and then is warmer, so let's hope it has a warming effect on the water!  It's a short swim anyway.

I thought the water was really warm last year.  I think this year it's going to be freezing.  I swam at blue marsh 2 weeks ago and it was 58.  I thought that was cold.

The water is going to be actually pretty similar to last year, maybe a degree or two colder but really is not too bad.  Not as bad as a few years back.

I hope you are right.  The water at Blue Marsh has gone up to 62, and I am hoping the water at GTN will be comparable.

My only wetsuit is sleeveless and it was fine last year.  Hoping it's comparable this year, but we shall see.

I am more than positive.  It is comfortable.  Cold, but not "burn your face" or face numbing cold.  Not a huge shock to the body either.

Putting out a little PSA: I rode the course last night and road work was being done on Mt. Wilson, roughly between Creek Rd where we turn and .5 miles before that.  They took cuts out of the road which are marked 'Bump' with orange signs, and yes, they were a bit sketchy, especially the one closer to Creek Rd. going over the little bridge.  Also, they put strips of fresh patch in at the ends of some roads (Creek and I think Lawn) which last night were still soft and loose (and flew all over the place and stuck to me, my bike and my tires) but by the weekend they should be cured and harder with cars driving over them.  With any luck the 'Bumps' will get paved by then, too, but if not, please use caution.

Thanks for the head's up.  I am hoping to kill it on the bike but don't want a wipeout!

Unfortunately the bumps are after that sweet downhill, and it really sucked to have to brake but I think not braking would've been very bad!

Good luck to you and everyone else at the race Saturday!

Good luck tomorrow to everyone!

I am thinking the water is going to be ok based on the past few days of warmer weather. Here's hoping!!

Does anyone have an update on the road conditions?

As of last night the road was still chopped up, reported by a member of my tri club.

Hmmm.....I hope they give us an update tomorrow on what to expect. I don't want to go flying down a hill and wipe out in a pile of chipseal and gravel.

Thanks for the info.

datlas - was that you who won all those awards, like 3 or 4 or 5? I heard Doug Atlas' name being called a lot and thought it might be you but wasn't sure. Congrats if it was you, wow!!!

I think you might be kidding. I did reasonably well today but I don't think I podiumed my AG or anything.

I had to leave right after the event due to family duties so I could not stay for awards.

But that is my name, so maybe I did better than I thought...or there may have been an error in the chip timing!!

I checked the website for official results but they have not been reported.

I hope everyone had as good a time today as I did. It was run very well and I really enjoyed it. I think I took a couple of minutes off last year's time.

Congrats to Doug, Mike, and Dave on their times. Doug, you are listed as 3rd overall finisher with a time of 1:12:27.90. Mike was 7th overall(2nd in his age group) at 1:13:15.14, and Dave was 40th overall(3rd in his age group) at 1:20:59:40.(I took a photo of the board). I heard there was about 800 entries, but not sure if that is correct.

That was my first tri ever and had a lot of fun. It went much better than anticipated. Now I fear that I'm hooked.

Kenny, is this posted online somewhere? I am not quite sure that time for me is accurate. I had my stopwatch going and had a time a few minutes more than that. I will have to look into this.

Anyway the event was a blast and I am already looking forward to next year.

That is from the photo I took of the board when they posted the results. Compuscore will probably have the results up tomorrow(just my guess).

So I think I have solved the mystery. I KNEW did not do as well as the time posted. I am ok at Tri's but not podium-worthy (at least not yet!)....

I went out with the wrong wave!!

I am 48 and went out with the M 45-49 wave (wave 6), but I should have gone out with the male beginner wave (wave 12).

So I started 12 minutes sooner than I should have. How embarassing!!

My corrected time would be 1:24:27 which is more my style.

I already sent an email to the GTN folks to alert them of this so the rightful top finishers can get their kudos.

Doug, The gentleman they posted on the board(at the race) in 1st place did the same thing. He was supposed to go out in wave 12, but went out in wave 5. I see they corrected his time on the compuscore website. http://www.compuscore.com/cs2013/may/gtnindiv.htm
I think once they see negative swim times they would get corrected.

I had been stalking this thread for a little while trying to get as much info as possible into this race. It was my first Tri and I had a total blast yesterday. The water temp seem comparable to the air temp and the swim seem to go super fast, I was expecting a cold long swim. Hope to do the race again next year.

Thanks for the info and glad to see everyone had fun too!

Is there any other sprint Triathlons in the South Central PA area this year?

Chris
