Just checking in. weight is the same, diet is OK, sneaking in some chips every now and then.
Getting really into training. Really pulled back and starting from beginning - 3m run/2m walk; 20 mins on stationary bike. Felt like hell (to not be in the "no pain, no gain mode), but I stretch it out with brisk walking and some weights and I feel like I'm getting a good workout in.

Swimming is coming along. Did my longest session - 900 yds. 50, 100, 200 yds at a time. I'm really new at it, so feel like I'm doing OK. Slow, steady, focusing on not letting legs sink, rotating body and getting my elbows out of the water.

So far no more knee pain. Am assuming that I'll make rapid progress as I'm not coming off the couch, just need to get used to volume. It's finally sinking in.

Still, hope I can do a respectable sprint June 23.

How's everyone else doing?

Well, I'm there! Got to my initial goal weight of 120 lbs a couple Mondays ago but I was out of town so I didn't check in here. Weighed myself this morning, and still going strong. Down to 119 lbs. I don't know what my next step will be. While I'm proud of myself for losing 12 lbs since I started this in January, I still have "vanity pounds" I'd like to lose.

Hopefully I will be successful at NEVER seeing 120+ lbs again!

Hope you are all doing well!

Green Mtn - I'm hoping you're very short to be that light. It must feel great to be lean and in shape - I can only dream...

Had a great week - best ever - really did the planned workouts. Not much, but for me about 1 1/2 hours B/ 1 1/4 hrs run/ 1hour swim is a real accomplishment.

Think I'm actually swimming! Elbow out of water, body rotating, legs straight, try to keep them from dragging. Yea, been studying my swim book.

I just do it. Even taking it easy, knee a bit sore, looking forward to my day of rest tomorrow.

Green Mtn: Awesome!

I'm still holding steady. I've got to switch up my workouts or something. I need to make 5 pounds worth of progress and get off this number I seem to be stuck on.

Getting my workouts in. Must be compensating too much, no weight loss and while everyone says I look better, clothes fit the same, and body fat is the same - 34% fat!

Just starting but getting that "this workout will be too hard, don't want to do it" voice in my head. Hasn't stopped me, I just keep moving toward the pool or gym and get it done.
Time to get the bike out, but am supposed to stay in Z2 and their are hills in every direction.

Running 3m/ walk 2m. Staying in Z2, just adding repetitions 3m/2m.
Just trusting that I'm building toward a significant peak. Only about 6 weeks till my sprint.

Mitzi: z2 doesn't mean you have to stay steady state z2 the whole time. That would be hard to do unless you had a perfectly flat course without wind gusts. You just want to average z2 overall. It's ok to have some higher zone bits in there. I have hills to contend with, too. They payoff in the end though. Hills make you a stronger cyclist and runner. Keep getting it done!

x2 what Lisa said, Mitzi. You'll get there! I get so frustrated seeing my HR go through the roof on hills (hard to go anywhere in VT without hitting some hills) I feel like throwing my hands in the air and saying, "well, I  might as well just WALK then". Trust the training! Change doesn't happen overnight. Maybe you don't want to hear this but...took me 3 seasons of running to really get the hang of it!

My first post here.

As of this weekend, I'm officially down 20lbs from the start of the year. However, after being my heaviest weight ever last Jan (2012) I resolved to GET HEALTHY last year. I was not on a 'diet', I knew eating for HEALTH would cause the weight to come off. I went through a couple ups-and-downs while trying to figure out what I could and couldn't tolerate, my slippery slopes, etc. Averaged 20 last year and another 20 this year.

I'm pretty excited about a 40lb total loss. Seems pretty big for a woman who isn't terribly tall.

I will say that investing in the expensive WiThings wi-fi scale was a huge motivator (you do NOT want to let a $160 scale collect dust) and it was as easy as cutting out junk, processed foods. I eat real food, 99% of the time. When I wasn't, my weight stalled or gained.

Didja miss me?

Probably not, but I'm back.

I've been in a funk lately.  Life has gotten in the way of training (and racing) a bit.  I've been working crazy hours at my real job, and I've been trying to ramp up my small business.  Pile on top of that some unexpected financial burdens, and training and racing have taken a back seat.  I'm holding steady at 230 right now, but I'm feeling good overall.

I sadly will probably NOT get to do the Breezy Point Triathlon on June 2nd, and Rev3 Williamsburg will definitely not happen.  I have no idea when my next triathlon will be.
I do know that I am registered for the 21Sep13 running of the Hero Rush near Richmond, VA.  I will be running in honor of a friend of mine who was a firefighter before Muscular Sclerosis destroyed his body.  The race takes place on the same day I had originally intended my re-match with the Outer Banks Olympic Triathlon, but such is life.  I might just do the Outer Banks Sprint instead.

Comet: Awesome job!

Mitzi: How is your training coming along?

Kilted: Sometimes life gets in the way of our fun. I find that the quickest way to get out of a funk is to have a purpose. Like a training plan for the next race. It brings me back into a disciplined state. I think the structure is what I need to right the ship.

In the past week, my two kids have graduated from college (twins), we had Mother's Day and our Anniversary. I was not even tempted to get on the scale to check the damages from that much veering off the course. I'll wait until Friday to make that assessment. My husband insisted we go out Sunday night after we returned home from the second grad party to "get drinks and nachos and celebrate that we're done". So there were actually 7 celebrations in 9 days including the dinners out the nights before graduations. Entirely too much restaurant food for me. I was so tired it was just a 1 margarita night, lol. I have an olympic this Sunday and another Olympic next Saturday. I sure hope this is water retention puff around my middle from all of the high sodium restaurant food! Drinking lots of water and hoping it disappears. Can't hide nuthin' in spandex!

Kilted - a big problem with Americans is that we think in very individualistic terms. Your struggles probably have little to do with you - you work hard - they have a lot to do with the state of the economy which is affected by national and global forces. Doesn't help much except to keep you from getting down on yourself. I'd miss you, I always enjoyed your posts and seeing your improvements.

I also haven't been around here much. I just haven't been keeping track of my food and consequentially haven't lost any weight and no my clothes don't fit any better either.
But I am on a mentoring thread and I'm doing 8/9 of my weekly workouts. My sprint is in 4 weeks so that only gives me 3 weeks of improvement. I've done the slow and steady to set a base and will now give it my all. I just didn't give myself enough time to train.
I am three months out of my oly so hopefully that will be enough time to complete that without too much pain.

I will be checking on to see how everyone is doing.

Guess who weighed in at 224 pounds a few days ago! That's right! THIS GUY!! I've surpassed my target by a pound. My uniform belt has a good 4" tail after I put it on... it used to have no tail.

I'm 7 miles shy of having run 300 miles for 2013, and I'm sitting at 45.6 miles for June!

I've entered myself into an obstacle course race to raise money for the Fallen Firefighter Foundation. Though it specifically raises money for this organization, it's intent is to honor firefighters, crime fighters, and those who fight for our freedom. I'll be running to honor a couple friends of mine. One is a friend from Ohio who has lost his firefighting career to Muscular Sclerosis; the other serves as a member of Norfolk (VA) PD and a medic in the VA National Guard.
I've also got a marathon planned for 10Nov13 and a Super Spartan Race planned for 24Aug13.

Wish me luck, and keep getting DOWN!

Now that I have laid down another 4.92 miles, today, I have to share some great news.

I weighed myself for the first time since the Physical Readiness Test in early May.

I weighed about 245lbs at the beginning of this year.
Since then, I have run over 335 miles, en route to a goal of 1K miles in 2013.
Today, I weighed in at 222lbs!!!

I'm trying to decide if I should keep going, or if I should focus my energies to maintain.
If I maintain, I can stay in the Clydesdale class and have a chance, however small, at a podium. Otherwise, I'll be just a regular age grouper with a snowball's chance in Hell at a podium. Decisions, decisions.

.Well after some time away due to a moron running a red light and totaling my truck and almost me, I am back! I am between 239-242lbs in the morning. I have not measured myself but I have been back on the bike for 2 weeks now. I hit the pool this week so far twice with the third swim planned for tonight and I have been doing some indoor climbing again.

I have picked a couple of target events but I am setting the goals kind of low for them. First I am going to do the Lifetime Sprint Tri in Dallas on October 6 2013 and then later that month 10/19 I will be competing in the 24 hours of Rockyhill

http://dallastri.lifetimetri.com/
http://www.terrafirmaracing.com/view.asp?id=45

For the lifetime tri all I want to do is finish the event with out having any unusual incident (with my luck that can be just about anything) and cross the finish line with a smile on my face
For the 24 hours of Rockyhill I am setting a gold of a lap count of above 6 laps in 24 hours and have fun doing it. I would really like to get 10 laps so I am using that as my upper end goal for this event. This will put me at a distance of 60-100miles of mountain bike riding in 24 hours

My weight goal for both events is somewhere between 200-215lbs.
