yeah, the may race is a sprint.

So what races do you have planned this year ?

Hey Egger,

I have had to switch races up this year because of work, family and other events. I was planning on the Elbow Valley sprint or Joe's Team event but then remembered I had a previous committment for that weekend. So now I am contemplating:

Invermere-Heart of the Rockies, Sprint-July 13

Calgary-Lake Chaparral, Sprint-August 11

Banff-Subaru, Olympic-September 7

I may switch out and do Red Deer-Woody's RV, Sprint-June 23 and then make Chaparral my Olympic distance race for the year. Guess I had better nail these down pretty quick as time is marching on. I like the date of the Okotoks race but opting for Invermere right now to make kind of a holiday weekend out of it. That could change to though....decisions, decisions!! LOL! I am usually not so indecisive but it is hard operating around work and family schedules!      Kirby

If you are doing invermere, look on VRBO for the condo rentals right there. I think they are called ?Lake windermere point. Super great location for the race!

Hope you like hills...Smile

Hey Kirby, I have signed up for 2 already...and want to do a couple more...There are a couple in June I might want to do, but i am going to hold off on signing up right now, I might be on a fishing trip then.

Looking to do the duathlon on 'footstock' weekend in cochrane.  i have never done a duathlon, so I might give it a shot.

I FINALLY nailed down my races for the year...

May 19th - Try this Tri-Sprint, Genesis Place, Airdrie, AB

July 14th - Heart of the Rockies-Sprint, Invermere, BC

August 11 - Lake Chaparral-Olympic, Calgary, AB

The race in Airdrie is a little early for me but will go a long ways to see what really needs working on for the other races this year. My "A" race will be the Olympic and am currently gearing my training for that race. Will need to get in the open water ASAP to ensure my comfort level is good. Other than that the rest of my training is going good thus far!

Cheers,   Kirby

I'm signed up for the Chinook Olympic too... why is it your favorite?  (It's my first year doing it -- will be my first Oly)

Chinook is my favorite for a few different reasons. First the bike is a challenge and I like that....you have to work hard to get to the turn around point , but when you do it is so worth it !! Second is the run course ...its a funny loopy course...however I am a back of the pack runner so this course by design makes it seem like I am never alone, there are always runners  around. Third, and most important, is they have THE best shirts !!!! Not to mention that the Race Director is a great guy and has created a great race. I look forward to this race every year....I hope to see you there and I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do.

Oh goody.  Smile

I looked up the elevation profile -- looked challenging but doable.  I've been trying to do more hills in training, but in my area it's mostly rolling hills, not a sustained 10-15km uphill.

I'm more worried about the wind -- seems to me there's a good chance of the wind whipping down the mountains?  Uphill and upwind, not a fun time.  Has this been a problem in years past?

Definitely looking forward to the second half of the bike.  Wheeee!!!!

Scott.

I just saw that the Chinook group is having a Sprint race for the first time on Sunday, June 16th.  The swim is in Sikome Lake.  I wouldn't have thought it was deep enough for such an event but honestly i have never been in the lake.  Maybe that will make it warmer?  Anyone have any more information on the course?

At this point I am in for the 10K at the Calgary marathon, Okotoks Natural Hi and my goal race is Chapparel olympic.

Sprint Triathlon, Draft Legal Races: 14/15Yr, Juniors
16-20
Sunday June 16th, 2013

  Location: .Fish Creek
Provincial Park
……………Sikome Lake
……………Calgary Alberta
……………Enter from Bow Bottom Trail

I did the cut and paste from their site.  I know it seems strange that is why I am wondering.  I had assumed Midnapore also.  It is the first year of doing this.  I googled and they say Sikome is only 7 feet deep.  I am sure they are people with a plan.  Also wondering about the whole route.  I think I am going to try it just because i want a June sprint and it is close to home.

Oly cancelled at Airdrie.... so I will race the sprint instead. The plan is to leave my tri bike and race bag at work and ride out in the morning... that will give 2 + hours race/training. Maybe a short swim after since the pool is booked until 11 to test a Huub suit.

how was that? The results look like a total mess with people in the wrong event or the wrong number of laps etc. People should be honest and advise trev or results canada.
