Anyone know much about the course or anything? And just who's going? Should be a great race, I signed up for the Olympic.

Basically the EXACT same course as Kansas 70.3 in June, just a shortened bike ride (it avoids the hills from mile 38-44 on the bike, but has a nice climb back over the dam) and not as many loops on the run.  still a great venue if campers are there.

I'm in for the Olympic, as I'm avoiding Kansas 70.3 this year after the brutality last year. Should be a great race.

I'm sure there will be plenty of group rides of the course, as there were last year for the 70.3. Keep a look out in early April here. I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities.

WTH? Who am I supposed to embarrass myself in front of with my lack of camping knowledge?

I got good news for Jayhox, I am only doing 5150 olympic. Vegas is looking closer baby! I am only pulling your leg. I will be in Europe racing for Team USA ITU Long Course Worlds, than heading to Serbia to race at Sprint Nationals and defend my Masters Division Title there, falling on June 9th. I am out of KS 70.3, but will go to Rev3 Branson for sure.

Ah come on Mark!  I didn't take up this addiction hobby until I was 42, I'm 46 now and will be rockin' this 70.3, trying to stay somewhat close to some dude in bright yellow.  You can train, you're young, you only need 6 hours of sleep, you can do it!

My bet is someone won't have time to train for a 70.3 with a wedding to plan.

Oh, so that must violate some kind of man law to just come out and admit it.  No way I'm buying the "too brutal" thing about going 70.3!  The brutal part is not the race itself I'll bet, it's getting there....

It is the man card requirement that the man take no part in planning the wedding other than to make sure it doesn't fall during football or basketball season.  Or triathlon season.

I am just hoping my age group rolldown for Vegas goes to 16 again (or more).  Laughing

Especially considering Markee Mark was running the entire course on his first 70.3 and I was run/walk/shuffling my way to the finish line on the first attempt.  I suffered far worse and still managed to show up 3 more time.

Yes, it should still be pretty cold.  I have rented from wetsuitrental.com before. Loved them, and they apply your rental fees to the price of a new or used wetsuit if you decide to buy one eventually.  Almost a rent to own type thing.

Thanks! Yeah that looks like a good place. Fairly cheap too, those things are so bloody expensive new.

You wont hear a thing until at least the week of the race.  Lok at last years KC 5150 wave starts.  Probably similar I would assume.  On a similar note, I was in Ultramax and the manager told me last he heard the KC Tri and the 5150 had very similar registration numbers for the Oly distance, around 500.  That surprised me.

That is somewhat surprising. The KCTri last year saw a boost in registration because of the 5150 designation. I would figure the same would hold true (although to a lesser degree b/c of the competing race) due to folks outside of the KC Metro (NE, IA and beyond) looking for a 5150 qualifier race for Hy-Vee.

He seemed to think a lot of the locals are sticking with the KC Tri.  At least that was the word around their store.

I wonder if the whole 5150 series has jumped the shark.

Hopefully they don't yank the event with low reg numbers leaving 500 triathletes with their cheese in the wind when they could have signed up for the kc tri. I know I'm not in a position to shell out 140 to race kc tri if ks 5150 pulls out.

Sadly wtc has proven in the past they have no qualms about trashing races for low numbers.

Great move to have two races on one day. Working out great.

I expected the 5150 to be far more popular, even though I signed up for the KC.  I couldn't pass up the opportunity to race so close to home.  I don't know how much UltraMax is involved in promoting the event, but I took advantage of the combo registration of Innsbrook+Tinman.  I know they also offered a KS+Innsbrook 5150 combo.  If they would have offered a 3-pack discount (Tinman+KS+Innsbrook) I likely would have chosen KS 5150 over KC.

I agree, though...having both on the same day  (even if it was a complicated situation) doesn't serve the KC-area tri community at all.  I would have done both events had it been an option.

Interesting about the numbers, REALLY hope they don't pull the plug.  I figured it would be late notice on the waves, but you guys in KC hear more than I do.

The race in Lawrence is also the same weekend as KU Graduation, I wonder if the lack of hotels is playing a part.

The hotels around Lawrence have been sold out for months because of graduation.  The only one left costs close to $200 a night.
