I am trianing for my first sprint Tri and I cannot swim well at all.  Looking for any recommendations in the Phoenix area for a good Tri swim coach.

I don't know what your schedule is, but there is a Total Immersion instructor at the Eldorado Aquatic center in Scottsdale that you can do drop ins on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays at noon.

I have never been as I have a 8-4:30 work week.

Another option, which is the route I took, is to get the Total Immersion DVD and book. I was flailing shark bait in January and now swim pretty well and have made it to the back of the middle of the packers in the swim portion of tris.

I also started swimming with AZ Tri Club. You are welcome to come and swim with us. We swim at Canyon lake on Thursdays at 5pm and on either Saturday or Sunday at 7am. You can check out more at http://www.aztriclub.com

Thanks for the info Andrew.

I found a trainer at my gym (Lifetime) who is going to work with me a bit.  Not sure what her swimming credentials are, but they recommened her when I told them what I was looking for.  I plan on working with her a bit and see how I progress.  I am soooooo not ready to be swiming out at Canyon Lake with you guys no mater how cool that sounds!!!  BUT someday I will!!!  The Sprint Tri I am trianing for (the Tinfoilman in Tucson) is in a pool, so I don't have to worry about open water just yet.

I did find your Tri club online, however, I feel I need some more training under my belt BEFORE I make a total fool of myself in front of a bunch of people!!!  The running I have down.  The biking is good but there is room for improvement.  The swimming....if you can call it that...is soooo bad.

Thanks again! Tanya

By the way, if anyone else is looking for a swim coach, that eldorado coach is listed here:

http://www.totalimmersion.net/find-coach.html

She's the first one on the list.

Anne Wilson is awesome!  She came down to Tucson and spoke to our club, the Tucson Tri Girls.  She brought some swim video and included that in her talk.  Our members enjoyed her talk so much that we're having her come down here to instruct at a swim clinic.  You PHX peeps are lucky that she's right there!

Tanya,
I belong to Lifetime as well. Let me know if you got any good use from the trainer there. I may check into that. I'm training for my first sprint also.

Thanks,
Sara

Sara,
Her name is Tami, and she is a part time trainer there and is available in the evenings. She is great! She does Tri's herself, and is actually highly ranked here in AZ, and might even take first or second overall in her age group for a particular series here. However, $80 a session adds up fast. Another route you might want to look at is the Tri coach there at LifeTime. His name is Ron Arroyo, and it is $158 for 7 weeks. It is sort of like a Tri club there at LIfetime, where there are 2 group workouts a week, and he works with you via email and they pics some races to do as a group. I am not a member of that yet, but ran into him at Focus Cyclery Saturday, and he gave me the scoop. You may want to check it out. [email protected].
Oh....this all applies to the Lifetime here in Gilbert on Warner and Gilbert Rds. If you belong to Tempe or Scottsdale, I would inquire with member activies to see if they have a Tri coach/group at your club.
Good luck!
Tanya

I would also highly recommend Total Immersion - both the book and the DVD. I couldn't swim until a few months ago. I was the total definition of a "thrasher," but after studying the TI method and doing the drills, I feel much more comfortable in the water and can actually swim more than one length without being breathless! I think someone else already included the link to Total immersion earlier - so check it out if you get a chance!

Best of luck!
