rrrunner - 2013-03-07 1:37 PM I've been following the Ketosis thread. It interests me when people decide to go on an "extreme" diet. All meat, no meat, I think they have validity but it's funny that they are so different, and yet similar. I'll stick with moderation but I do focus on "real" ingredients, organic when available. (DH is from Wisconsin. Vegetarian/vegan would be grounds for divorceLaughing)

Back when I first started my life changing journey (originally the motivation was to lose weight).... I was doing research about different diets, and I came across a blog comment that I will never forget.  Someone wrote "Eat whatever you want, just eat 1 serving."

If you can stick to that, and count the calories, you will start to not like junk food as much, because 12 potato chips just doesn't fill you up for the calories you get counted towards your daily goal.

Best advice I ever read.

So when did you start and give us a summary - !!

Very summarized version:

Post separation from an 11 year marriage (13 years together), I was gaining weight, very unhappy, eating like crap and drinking to much.  I was almost 40... Grandpa and Dad both had their first heart attacks in their 40's and one day it hit me.... I'm not heading in a good direction.

Always hated running, decided to lose weight, so I started running.  Couldn't run 1 mile on a tread mill.  That was at the end of August 2011.  Found a love for running that I never had before...and since I grew up a competitive swimmer and cyclist..I decided to do an Ironman (as a kid, I always dreamed of doing one.)  Started training for that in Feb 2012...Finished my first in August 2012.

For those of you who haven't visited my blog.....here are my before (July 2011) and after (2/20/13) pics.

thanks for that! Piccies too. In four weeks you get before and after jo

Hey, in two days you get the always-fabulous-anyway before Jo, and the currently seriously roided-out Yanti. Unfortunately it's not the good kind of roids that would help my training at all, but fortunately they have helped the joints immensely. But on Ann-Marie's umpteenth hand (I can't be the only Manatee that remembers this ... ), they also make you seriously retain water so I kind of look like ... well, a Manatee. At least they are awfully cute!

I will own one of these someday.. So beautiful.

http://www.renovobikes.com/hoodoo-triathlon/

DUUUUUDE!!! That has cool in spades. Awesome. And I am going to bet the ride is smooth as silk. The vibration reduction of wood is real sweet.

I am going to get the bacon on my bars next week or so, to start prepping it for riding.  I have been run focused for the past few months so working on the bike will be a nice change.  I'll get a few photos uploaded after my Fuji SL*T is ready to go.  I've only seen TX Jonathan's sweet Scott and Yanti's Red Robber.  Oh yeah, I saw Ann-Marie cruising out of transition 1 last year at Rev3 Venice too. I believe it was a Cervelo, but I blinked and she flew past me!

What will everyone be riding this year?

I think it was more of a nap than a blink!  I will be riding my nap inducing Cervelo P2.

kgore - 2013-03-07 3:15 PM Well, I officially got the day okayed at work. In October I will be doing my very first half marathon. I am freaking out a little.  That is all.

You'll do great!  Heck, didn't you just complete a 10 miler?  It's only a 5k more than that and you have six months to train for it.  Piece of cake.

P.S.  When is graduation?

I am trying this no grains no sugar thing that Vinnie Tortorich promotes...he's an ultra cyclist...so energy clearly not a problem.  I'm not jumping in though blindly, I'm gonna listen to all he has to say first (all 102 podcasts worth).

Hey, if it will make you into an ultra cyclist, what the heck, right?

StaceyK - 2013-03-07 7:22 PM Ok so I went for a swim today and it felt like I was swimming through concrete. It just took so much effort.I have been reading my swim smooth book (and loving it) and I have realised there is so many "little" things wrong with my stroke like my hand entry, my catch and pull, my kick and my body rotation. The problem is that I can't concentrate on fixing them all at once because as soon as I focus on one I revert back to old methods in the other. So my question is which one do I start with?Oh and why am I always so hungry after a swim?

I have heard that it has something to do with body temperature.  When you run or ride it gets hotter but when you swim it is cooler.  Your body's thermostat says something like, "Eat food so that you can warm up."
