Sensei Sin City | Subject: DVD to Ipad/Iphone/PC etc. I have used just about all of the "free" rippers on the market with mixed results. Some seem to be better than others, sometime not. Is there a version you can buy that is better than most? I'm looking to transfer some of my DVD library to my Ipad/Laptop. Thanks! Your neighborhood bootlegger |

Your neighborhood bootlegger I run an iMac. I use MacxDVD Ripper Pro (I bought the package with the Converter pro). It does everything I need it to do. I have converted over to digital only so no need for burning software. But on the rare occasion I burn something for someone else I use a free burning software (Liquid CD) In the past I used Toast Titanium pro. It was everything I ever wanted in a rip/burn software adn more!!!

this is the one I have. slow but works good. you can also use nero or toast if you have it. a newer version.. Yup.....I was recommeded this and have used it for a while. I love the fact that there is a "movie only" option so you can take out all the previews, warnings (again....ironic), etc. Just pop a movie in and it'll play. Great for the kids since they give to chits less anything BUT the movie. |

Champion 8766 Evergreen, Colorado | Subject: RE: DVD to Ipad/Iphone/PC etc. I've been using Handbrake on my iMac and it works fine...on the Mac. I haven't tried to play the movies on any other system. I haven't needed ANYTHING else (i.e. no other software) other than Handbrake. Though I have found a few movies lately that just won't work (mostly newer and "more heavily protected" movies). I assumed that as Handbrake continued to update it would eventually work for my few newer movies...so I just keep trying them. A few literally shut Handbrake down (Ghost Protocol comes to mind). I have also used DVDCloner I believe...it's one I paid for but it had lifetime updates. But it only runs on windows (bummer). That's why I have been using Handbrake of late. |

Sensei Sin City | Subject: RE: DVD to Ipad/Iphone/PC etc. What was odd, I was able to rip movies before with handbrake and was pretty happy. I put them on my PC and phone. BUT, it could NOT rip the original Matrix movie. It always had errors. I thought it was the DVD, so a actually bought a copy of it for a couple bucks at Target and the same thing. Errors when ripping. That's what made me think I needed something better than handbrake. Funny, it worked with all the other Matrix movies other than the first one. Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings, all good. |

Try downloading DVDFab and make sure AnyDVD is updated to most recent version. Copy it using DVDFab. Then rip using handbrake. Just a suggestion. |

So DVDFab doesn't get the file into a format itunes can read? I think the version you pay for can do that, but the free one doesn't. It rips the files onto your HD in a "DVD" format. Handbrake (also free) can read these easily and can convert them to an itunes format. |

I'm not sure Habdbranke has the ability to rip from the DVD due to copyright protections - DVD Fab does. (Handbrake may, I just haven't played with it that much). Basically, it's DVDFab to beat any protection on the disc, and then Handbrake to convert the files to the format you want. (note: obey all copyright laws!) |

Yep DVD Fab subverts the DRM (copy protection) of the media which then allows handbrake to read from the disc. By ripping movies from the DVD you are violating the DMCA, even if all you ever do is store them on your hard drive. (Good work, government!) Edited by Bripod 2013-02-01 6:57 PM |

Well, 99% of the discs I've done have worked directly through Handbrake....maybe this weekend I will check out DVDFab and see if the handful of failed discs work with DVD Fab.
When I had a Windows machine I used Magic DVD Ripper...that worked super well too.... |
