Subject: Am I getting faster or is the trainerwearing out????
I have a Cycleops 2 trainer that I have be using for about 3 years now.  This winter I have been hitting it hard and appear to be making gains, but lately the resistance seems to be getting less and less.  Yes, I hope I am getting stronger, but can and do trainers "wear out"?  It's not leaking and doesn't make any noise.  BT, any answers?

hard to tell. could also be the pressure you're applying to the tire from the trainer. i'm assuming you dont have a power meter or else you'd know if you were making gains. have you done a TT that you could do again to compare?

How much difference are you seeing in speed and are you 100% sure it isn't leaking?  My wife was using hers last winter and the speed kept getting higher and higher over a few months.  Eventually I noticed a very small amount of the fluid leaking out (it had likely been doing so for quite a while before I noticed).

Cycleops replaced it for free (ok, $20 to ship it to them) even though it was past the warranty period and I wasn't the original owner.

One day i was short on time, had to jump on the trainer without airing up the tires as i normally try to do. I was feeling reall good, so i decided to hammer it. Hit speeds i have never seen before(no power meter). I was feeling really good about myself until i got off of the bike and realized my rear tire was almost flat. Lol

The Cycleops Fluid 2 is a high quality trainer that, unless you've got a fluid leak- won't change much over time.

So- other than the tire pressure and contact pressure of the trainer stuff above... I say you're getting stronger!

I have found my back tire getting less inflated on my trainer this winter, too lazy to get out the pump but still likely 70 or 80 psi. Anyhow, I have noticed it is getting easier for me. And I like the higher cadence on the sweet spot gear where the chain is running parallel, so less wear and tear. So I am leaving it. Before I felt the tension was way too hard, like I was trying to crank up a hill in a pretty easy gear. Or not equivalent to outdoor riding. For what it is worth.

Thanks everyone. I don't have a power meter. I did check for leaks, but don't see anything. My tire was a little low.
