I'm thinking road with clip-ons, but looking at the elevation profile, i don't know when I'll really get any benefit from them. This looks to me like a road bike course, what say you? I've ridden around there before, those hills are no joke.

Personally I would use my road bike, but I am not a strong cyclist and am even weaker on my TRI bike (in terms of skill/stability.)  If there are cat 5 climbs and/or switchbacks, I will be on my road bike.

You're looking at three climbs averaging 2.6% and none of them are over 1.25 miles.  There is one other significant elevation gain, but it doesn't qualify as a categorized climb (actually none of them do, there is really no such thing as a cat 5).

So, you've got 1.25*4 = 5 miles of easy to moderate climbing and 50 miles of flat or downhill.

Definitely ride the Tri bike.

^^This.

I have a very hilly commute.  When I ride my road bike, I'm slower and more tired than when I ride my tri bike.  Granted my roadie is more comfortable on the climbs, the extra 5-15 minutes riding makes up for the discomfort of climbing on the tri bike.

I'll also stipulate that my roadie is an older, steel bianchi and my tri bike is a carbon fiber Cervelo, but the geometry/aero position on the flats and downhills makes a huge difference in speed.

Even though you get the most gains by staying in Aero even if its a hilly course, I don't think clips-on would be any advantage. Yes for a tribike, no for clip-ons as you will likely be haveing to shift alot. You might as well just stay down in the drops.

Those aren't really "climbs" if it's really 2.6%... Tri bike, definitely.

MapMyRide could be a bit under on the grades, but even considering that I'd be tri bike all the way.
