recommend a table top or board game for the family to play.  Right now we've been playing cutthroat caverns, and last night on earth.

Thinking about trying Fluxx or munchkins.

Any suggestions?

Since I've never even heard of those, I'm going to assume your family has advanced beyond Monopoly.

Fluxx is fun I think. Another good one if you like magic-type activities is Ascension. I also recommend Dixxit, Buzzword and if you have a very mature audience Cards Against Humanity (think Apples to Apples with much better word choices).

What ages are you looking for?  We play a lot of board games.  Carcassonne, Settlers of Catan, Munchkin, Bohnanza, and Guillotine are good for a wide range of ages.  For older kids (12ish+), you could add in Power Grid, Race for the Galaxy, and some of the strategy games.

My daughter is 11 and loves cutthroat caverns, the rest of the players would be adults.

I've heard good things about Dixit.

I suddenly feel OLD.  I can  honestly say, I didn't recognize a single other title.  I could only relate to this post...  THEM games I know.

Highly recommend settlers of Catan. It does not really get old as the board is created new for each game and can vary greatly.

I would check out one of the game stores in your area. My local mall has a store devoted to odd and uncommon board, table, and card games - lots of good options.

Also when it is just the adults - I highly recommend card against humanity but if you are playing with anyone who has delicate Morals it might be better not to.

x2, so old.

Clue is such a great strategy game - played that since I was a little girl. And JUST LAST YEAR beat my sister. Took me nearly 30 years But to be fair I only won on a technicality (she figured it out but you have to wait till your turn to solve).

I LOVE playing Risk. I haven't heard of most of the games mentioned in this thread, other than the good oldies.

Settlers of Catan! Then you need the Seafarers of Catan expansion pack. And then Cities and Knights. Yes, yes, yes!

Pandemic is another good game - unique in that you work together, not against each other - towards a common goal.

Risk is probably my all time most favorite old school games.  I even got if for the computer years later just to play - the AI wasn't that bad either - but I did find some strategy flaws that made the game not as fun because I could take advantage of them and kill the computer.  Hard to NOT use them if you know they are there - especially if my back was against the wall.

I also had a computer version of monopoly.  Same thing.  I could slightly over pay to buy my forth rail road or 3rd property from the computer, complete the set and gouge the computer.  Meanwhile NEVER sell the computer the last property it needed

That's no good.  I need to crush my foes...

Kidding, I like to play cooperative mode the best when playing online shootem-ups.

My son, who's 8, LOVES Settlers of Catan. The family next door, who have 8 and 12-yr old daughters plays it as well. My son also likes a game called Puerto Rico.

Apples to Apples is a fun card/word game. They have a few versions.

If you want to play a potentially silly game, you need to look at Quelf.  Seriously.  It's family friendly, but it can certainly be turned into an adults-only game as well (i.e. take the penalty or take a drink).  We bought it for some friends for a birthday, and ended up getting one for ourselves because it's that much fun.  It is kind of an advanced game, so younger kids (below 8, maybe) would probably have a tougher time.  That's when you make teams.  Look for it.  You won't be disappointed.

Fluxx is fun, may take a few games to get up to speed since reading a big hand full of cards can make for long turns.  Games can be real quick, my gaming group uses it as filler.

Munchkin is OK, however my adult gaming group is real cut-throat.  I can see it being kid friendly in the right group depending on the age of the kids.

Carcassonne is a great game, along the lines of Settlers of Catan for a sort of cooperatively competitive game.

"King of Tokyo" is a fun new dice rolling game, think Yatzee combined with giant monsters!

Check out www . boardgamegeek . com for a great resource on games!

We've been playing a great game called "Spot It."  It's pretty straight-forward, and gives you several different variations to play with their special set of circular cards.  It's been a lot of fun.

I'll have to look into the Catan game mentioned earlier.

btw, we've been doing some Farkle lately as well.  It's a fun family dice game.

I love games. My current faves are Qwirkle and Blokus. Both kid friendly, although Blokus is probably a little easier for kids to get the hang of. I also really enjoy Sequence (an oldie but goodie and you can play as teams of 2, so great for parents and kids). I recently picked up Quoridor, but I found a defiency in the game's instructions and it kind of bugs me to just have to make up a rule for a certain situation that arises. I contacted the manufacturer but haven't heard back. I really like the game, though. I'm a board-game nerd I suppose.

A +1 to all of these:

Catan
Carcassone (my 5 year old loves this)
Bohnanza
Guilotine
Puerto Rico
Power Grid

And some more options:

Ticket to Ride (my 5 year old loves this too)
Caylus
Ora and Labora (but its a tough game)
San Juan (card game version of Pureto Rico)
Arkham Horror (if they can sit still for a while, when I've played it's taken a long time)
Small World

Btw, I just remembered one I played a long time ago: Scotland Yard.

It's one person against all the rest, so it's fun for teamwork, and doesn't take forever to finish a game.
