Great song choices!  I must admit I've turned to Jay -Z "Big Pimpin" and some old Foxy Brown stuff!

Machinehead!!

The blood, the sweat, the tears-

Great driving rhythm, great applicable lyrics, for example:

"So hold on to the end.

Its all about the blood, the sweat, the tears.

A tribute to the strength built through the years."

I have to tell you that I saw this and thought, "Oh jeez, another music thread with the same songs as always." I am blaming February blues for the pessimistic attitude

However, I am impressed with the range of music that you all have posted and have to say that Young the Giants has now been added to my "kickin it" list. Great call and thanks for sharing!

I've got Michael Jackson's "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" queued up and waiting for me when I turn on the mp3 player tomorrow morning. I'm pretty excited about it.

Some good ones here - Just to add a few new ones:

Daft Punk - Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger (use this one before races)

Stereophonics - Dakota

Dave Matthews Band - Last Stop (The whole album is pretty good)

Maroon 5 - Overexposed (whole album - has Payphone and One More Night which have been mentioned

I fronted and played guitar in a band while in college and for a short time afterwards. Loose Yourself was what I'd listen to before we went on stage. Awesome pump-up song. Never used it for running though.

These are songs that always give me an extra gear.

"Boe Money" by Galactic, either the studio version from Ya-Ka-May or the live version from The Other Side of Midnight.

"Battle Without Honor or Humanity" by Tomoyasu Hotei (AKA the Kill Bill song). As someone once put it, this song makes any activity awesome, even doing the dishes.

"Sugarfoot" by Black Joe Lewis

Anything off of Talk to the Animals or All Day by Girl Talk (download them free at illegal-art.net)

Great call...I saw him several months ago in concert and now can't get enough....awesome

I like the Kanye West song that samples this as well.

Interesting question...when I'm on the dreadmill, my kick it in songs are usually Paradise City by GnR, the jam part of Come Sail Away by Styx or even Gone by Montgomery Gentry.  When I'm running outside, my head is full of long jam songs, like Blue Sky by the Allman Brothers or Fire on the Mountain by the Grateful Dead.  David Guetta and Kelly Rowland's Love Takes Over is also a common outdoor song that helps propel me.  (I don't run with an Ipod outside, so this is a bit apples and oranges.)

So I guess indoors it's more about intensity for me, but outdoors it's about keeping my head happy/jamming so I can 'concentrate' on kicking-it to the next gear.

I don't listen to music when I'm running outside.  I prefer to take in the sites and sounds of the environment around me.  On the treadmill or trainer just having something on the TV to distract me is good.

When I'm lifting weights having some hard music definitely helps when needing to push that little extra.  Any number of bands qualify there and I'm a huge fan of Rush, but "Ladies and Gentleman" by Saliva is one song that really does it for me in that situation.

Eminem - "Till I collapse" & Loose Yourself

Fort Minor - "Remember the Name"

Buck 65 - "463"

Men at Work - "Down Under" - I don't know why I love this song, and it gets me going.

Evanescence - "Bring Me to Life"

Those are a few of mine.  I have a pretty good Pandora station set up for my longer runs that is pretty good.
