This is somewhat of an extension from the potty mouth thread a while back.  I hate buzzwords.  YES, I am affording that much emotion to an inanimate object.  Not even object, concept!  I loath them.  Detest them in fact.  Whenever I hear them in meetings or general office speak it sends my mind reeling into a cavernous pit of despair.  It comes across as fake IMO.  Their usage gives me a vibe of "I don't know what I'm talking about so I'm going to throw a buzzword in to sound more knowledgeable":

Increase Visibility Across Business Silos (this one's a face puncher) Dang it!  I used one!
Synergy
Value added
Reverse Fulfillment
Best of Breed
Best Practices

These are just a few of my least favorites.

I'm sure I've used one or two in my lifetime unknowingly, and I'm sure I got a little dumber after I did.

rant over.

I agree. We should be "efforting" to eliminate these. That would be a "win-win".

Why don't you create an action plan for that.

Best Practices is a legal term though. I don't think we can kill things that are crucial to contracts.

On the other hand, I do agree with your other selections.

I personally hate political buzzwords. "Fair share" "Legitimate Rape" "sequestration" etc.

People I work with seem to like military themed buzzwords for some reason.

"go to battle with"

"keep some powder dry"

We're going to need to ideate this if we're going to monetize it.

ROI
Cross-functional
Download (meaning "to fill someone in")

My favorite are buzzwords that no one but the speaker understands.
I had a boss who used to use the expression "get the G-2" which she said meant "gather intelligence", and which she claimed was a WWI-era OSS expression or something. She was pretty much full of baloney about most things, so she could have made it up. Either way, no one ever know what she was talking about.

G-2 would be an intel officer on a General's Command Staff. S-2 is Battalion Intel Officer usually. But saying "I need the G-2" is kinda cheesy.

I agree on Cross Functional.

I dislike saying "go to battle" or "in the trenches." Because sitting in a boardroom and going to war ain't even close.

I don't like "Seamless". Except in the crotch of my bike shorts that is...

G2 is a legitimate military term, related to intelligence, or what the enemy is up to more specifically. It's still used today by at least the US Army, probably USMC as well. There are others, G1, 3, 4, 5, 6 and maybe 7. They're different staff sections for things like personnel, supply, administration, and IT.

Some of my "favorites" are action item, ETC, or anything EVM related.

I ended an interview with an applicant DIRECTLY after she used the word conversate.  Unacceptable!

ROI is not neccessarily a buzzword but I would argue that it is overused and/or used in appropriately.

Ha! I'll have to find one for my teacher friends. We used to make our own buzzword games for staff meetings. Differentiation was THE word the last year I was in classroom.

Agreed. That is kind of why I hate them in our office. Nothing I do is even close to what the military does.
