I have never tried a relay in a triathlon but my son and grandson are teaming up with me for Leadman Tri Apr 14. It should be fun but I am not sure how amny teams are participating and what the levels of ability are in the relay. This will be my son and grandsons first triathlon so they can see how the transitions work without too much pressure.

I'll be there running the full thing.  2 weeks after Oceanside 70.3, so I will be just having fun and smiling, not pushing it.

You'll have a blast.

Really wanted to race this but I'll be in Boston that weekend.  Probably for the better as my bike is not nearly ready for it.

signed up for this...remind me not to sign up for another big spring tri!
Between the holidays, a sickness that went thru my family - twice, kids being sick, the weather (big cold weather baby), and now battling calf injuries on both legs...not sure what is gonna happen!
My bike is coming along nicely - doing 70 miles this weekend but my swim stinks (lack of training) and run has suffered (injury).

Option is to do Marquee Oly...which is what I will do if I determine the 125 just isn't in the cards...but we will see!

Wish they would post the race course!!

This should be a fun, and different race in Tempe.  The trail run will bring a new twist to typical Tempe Town Lake races.

It is a couple weeks after Oceanside, so many of us will be primed so long as we do not hurt ourselves in CA.

The major bummer is this is the same weekend as Warrior Dash, so running the Dash with my son on Saturday, then Leadman 125 on Sunday should be interesting.

I'm a little nervous for this one> Already having race anxiety dreams where i forget my tri suit under my wetsuit! LOL.

My longest race is an oly, so this bike ride is going to be a stretch. I figure I'll survive it, but that is pretty much the only goal. That, and not walk to much on the run or get hurt.

I was thinking about doing this one...the bike part doesn't scare me, I've been riding a lot this past year but some stitches in my foot meant I was out of the water and off my feet (no running) for the past month. I might see if anyone wants to do a relay.

If you do the relay and need a runner let me know- we're planning to be at the race cheering folks on and a little run sounds fun! No TTL for me though, I'll save swimming in the lake for IM only...

I'll be there just doing the Olympic.  My first oly and my first OWS.  I'm excited!

Are there any groups doing some OWS practice leading up to the race?  I currently don't have anyone to swim with and I'm sure going by myself might be a little dangerous (especially since i am not experienced).

Google AZ Open Water Swim - there is an OWS session on April 7, 1 week before the race.  Most likely it is at Tempe Town Lake.

REALLY wish they would post the race course! 1 month away, you would hope they had all the permits they need!

Bike is coming along well - 85 miles this morning and 2 loops of the Beeline, if the course will be out there I figured I'd need to re-acquaint myself with route.

Just wish my swim and run were coming along as well. Will have to miss the OWS.
At least the water should warm up a bit, last I checked TTL it was still quite chilly!

This is my first race longer than an Olympic distance. I am training hard and correctly, but the distances are completely freakin' me out! :-/ I am committed to one swim stroke, pedal stroke, and step at a time. Good luck to all. Oh yeah, I too want to see the bike route map!

I agree. Longer swim, longer bike, shorter run... will definitely be a little different. Hopefully they post course maps soon!

I got an email saying they still don't have permits for bike course but they posted the swim and run courses. I am going to an OWS this Sunday at Canyon and signed up for OWS Apr 7. My club (AZTriClub) is also doing a 74 mile bile ride on what I think may be part of bike route on Beeline and Fountain Hills.

See you all out there! Hope I am reading for the 125. Having calf issues. My swim needs to pick up. I will be at the lake on March 26th am for OWS and trail run at Saguaro lake. Let me know if you like to meet up. Maybe get a bike ride in too.

Super bummed I won't be able do this, or any race that weekend...I've been dealing with a nasty case of PF and I really want it to heal up so I can salvage the majority of the season. I keep telling myself that I might feel good enough to sign up for at least the Sprint last minute, but it's unlikely...Enjoy your races, everyone!! I'll be out there cheering you all on!

I ran the Leadman run course Wednesday night. Some observations in case anyone is interested...

- 80% is on trails.

- Small undulating rollers throughout, nothing steep.  My Garmin read 466 feet climbing.  It's definitely tougher than the typical Tempe triathlon runs (around the lake). Nothing technical.

- Surface was pretty firm (good for running) with only a few rocky sections.  Should be pretty fast.

- Distance was a little over 8 miles.

Hope this helps!

Another note... I can't believe that they don't have the bike course yet... any speculations that it'll be on Beeline up and back?

I think that's their plan.  I think it will be a lot like Marquee last year (partially up Beeline and back).
