27 | Subject: RE: Inside-Out Sports Olympic Triathlon at BeaverDam : Official Thread Not sure if this is the right spot to post this... But I need some help!I am posting here because the Triangle Orth. Sprint is at Beaverdam this year and the questions pertain to the course... Albeit half the distance... Did my first tri (White Lake sprint) 2 weeks ago and enjoyed it very much. Stressed about the (55 degree) water temp but did it anyway. Bike and run are completely flat. Am I in for a rude awakening on Saturday? I finished the sprint in the middle of the pack... But given the conditions (cold water, new, stuck in wetsuit) was happy with it. Was by no means "easy" for me but now I am thinking I may have bit off more than I can chew. Any advice for a newbie??Thanks! |

Swim shouldn't be an issue for you- much warmer now. Beaverdam area has rolling terrain so be in that mindset. You can't race downhill all the time Good Luck! |

Everyone will be stuck in wetsuits, it's still early in the season! I wore mine to test it out this morning in the pool (rinsed thoroughly afterwards), and it was like a monkey and a football for me to get out of. The hill on Ghoston is a bit of a meanie, and the rolling hills from 98 back to the park entrance will be in play for you, but if you don't kill yourself on the Ghoston hill, you'll have gas in the tank for Hwy. 50 and the run. Spin the hills on 50, don't try to torque it. |

Expert 1342 Apex, NC | Subject: RE: Inside-Out Sports Olympic Triathlon at BeaverDam : Official Thread I'm sure this will come out in the race day info (when that gets published), but do you guys know how they'll work this with two races going on simultaneously? Both swim maps are the same, so is ours a 2-lap swim of the 750m course? I'm just curious how this is going to work out... |

Looks like cold and rainy (maybe) on Sat. Curious what to wear for 60 degrees after a swim. I rode to work this morning in tri top with a long-sleeved bike jersey this morning and it was nice for 5 mins then too warm...but not sure a tri top alone would feel great for 26 miles! |

Expert 1342 Apex, NC | Subject: RE: Inside-Out Sports Olympic Triathlon at BeaverDam : Official Thread louiskie - 2013-04-18 10:48 AM I will likely go with my old standby; tri top and arm warmers. Rode with that this past Sunday, then pulled the arm warmers after about 10 miles. Also had toe covers and pulled them off. I think for this race, it'll be wetsuit and 2 latex caps for the swim, tri top, arm warmers, light gloves (maybe), tri shorts, toe covers on the bike, and as little as I can get away with for the run fgump - 2013-04-18 9:07 AM I'm sure this will come out in the race day info (when that gets published), but do you guys know how they'll work this with two races going on simultaneously? I rode this morning with no toe covers and feet were fine...not even a touch cold. Neither were my hands. Body would have been chilly without more than just a tri suit on, but after a few mins I think that would have been fine. Should be a fun race. |

Expert 1394 Wilmington, NC | Subject: RE: Inside-Out Sports Olympic Triathlon at BeaverDam : Official Thread Not that I am saying HTFU or anything. At White lake with 52-54deg water it really was not that much of an issue once it started. I had my wetsuit and 2 caps and that was it. The air temp after getting out of the pretty fridgid water was around 55 and I went with my trisuit only. I did have toe warmers already on shoes so I left them on, but I feel I would have been fine without. Just some sort of reference points to maybe help make your decisions. Hope everyone has a great day. |
