Except for Lactose Intolerance. Humans produce less Lactase as we get older. It's not something that get's better after 6 months, and it has nothing to do with Gut Flora other than lining the small intestine...if present at all. A probiotic will not solve Lactose intolerance.

I get your point, but the nerd in me wants to address the fact that the symptoms are directly related to your gut flora... as they are the ones that digest the Lactase that you do not.... while releasing a lot of gas and water in their digestive process.

All of the lit that I have read states that maintaining as much dairy in your diet as you can tolerate helps fend off more loss of lactase production a la use it or lose it.

Agree with Paragraph two. As for one, I think maybe our difference is symptom v. cause.

No we don't disagree, I was just being a punk with a To-may-to/to-mah-to point.

When your lasctase levels drop, you pass more lactose undigested into your intestines which then get eaten by the bacteria down there.

The by-product of them digesting the lactose and not you is gas and water--- thus the symptoms.

Porfirio -

I was using the lactase drops and mixed with dairy milk, but found that after awhile my stomach wasn't really appreciating it. I switched back to rice milk - which I get at Costco and isn't terribly expensive. The downside, as Josh mentioned, is that it has a low protein content.

I hope your mix still works for you! Like everything else, it really seems like it varies from person to person.
