Subject: Pigman long course wetsuit?

Does anyone know if a guy needs a wetsuit for the Pigman long course?  I'm not opposed to buying one, just was not sure if I needed to look into getting one or not.

Thanks

Cole

It's been pretty close to the 78 deg. cutoff the years I've done it, so the water will almost certainly be warm enough to do without.  If you're buying specifically for this race, I'd go sleeveless because the water almost certainly will be warm.

Thanks Eric.  I saw you did Racine a few years ago.  Did you wear long sleeve or sleeveless there?

that extra bouyancy from the wetsuit will certainly help in that mile + swim, don't know if you NEED it though.  eric is right that the water runs pretty warm in august, but there was that rain storm that one year....

Yeah for Racine I'd definitely do a full suit.  The swim is in Lake Michigan, and it's rarely above 60.  The years I did it, water was 57 and 58.  It's not too bad but I definitely wouldn't want to be in that water without a full suit.

Don't remind me, I'm still traumatized by that day

I heard that running wild in cedar rapids is renting wetsuits. It is one mile away from the host hotel, if you are interested in renting and not buying:

Is this Heaven? No, it's Iowa.

I did Pigman last year.  The temps were 90s+ all summer then the temp dropped dramatically the week before.  Nearly everyone racing last year wore wetsuits.  It was kind of cold at the start.  They let people enter the water 3 or 4 at a time and those waiting got pretty cold.

If it's legal to wear one I wear one.
