Meh season finale.  Would have been more shocking to end it last week, although I know they are roughly following the books.  As with the books, I am pretty weary of Danaerys' storyline, so ending it there was a let down

GRRM no longer has a twitter account because he killed off all 128 charictars.

It was a good break for the season. Stannis is heading for the wall where the impending war with the wildlings is going to happen and Jon and Sam are back there. Daenerys now has a whole group of followers who are not fighters. The rebellion of the north is now over. Jaime is back home with Cersei who see’s Joffery is a demon seed. Bran is heading north with no idea what he is doing or where he is going.
So you kind of have an idea where the story is going for next season. How did you guys like the episode?

I thought they did a good job of keeping the storylines that were important moving like you mentioned, Cersei/Joffrey, Cersei/Jamie, Danerys, Bran, Sam, Snow/Ygritte. I'm most looking forward to whatever happens with Arya next season. She appears to have taken a turn when she stabbed that dude for talking about her brother and mother.

The best twist has to be the whole Walder Frey now cursed to eat and eat but never be satisfied. That was cleverly done on the show. GRRM said he got the idea of the Red Wedding from two incidents in Scottish History that were equally as awful.

P.S. Hodor says "Hodor"

Yep from the real life black wedding.

I was hoping they would go into why killing them after they ate the bread and salt was a big deal (under their protection) so they did that in this episode very well.

They did foreshadow with Bran telling the story of the white rat guy.

I have a feeling I'm going to have to read book 4 before next year, I don't think there is enough material and/or budget to draw out the last half of book 3 to 10 episodes.

No there should be enough with a lot of big things happening.

Yeah this season was a little blah all the way around. There was one exciting episode, the second to the last one. That's it. Which follows the books. I believe it was book 2 that was mostly people traveling and nothing exciting happening.

I got tired of waiting for the better half to have time to catch up on the previous seasons and watch season three with me so I started on my own.  Got 3-4 episodes in.  Not bad...

Only comment I have is when Daenerys was trying to buy the slave army and the "master" was always calling her names in his language?  I could see it a mile away that she could understand it.  Still was good when it happened though and she basically stole the army from him.  And if they dragons are hers, not sure how anyone else could hope to have one.  They will always go back to her.

I'm really interested in how it will play out.  I'm really pulling for Daenerys, but of course, Rob Stark.  Shoot, I even like Tyrion and now Jamie a bit...

I'm assuming since his father basically disowned him, that Tyrion will swap sides.  Jamie has a thing for Brienne of Tarth...  Bran (who looks WAAAAAAAY older now, it was a bit unsettling).  Maybe Daenerys is Queen of the south and Rob King of the north?  Maybe Bran leads all and joins them?

Makes me want to get further into the books!

I'm not going to say anything about Robb Stark.

I'm just so amazed how G.R.R. Martin was able to keep everything straight with all the characters and the timeline of events.

Ok, holy crap.  I finished up the season last night.  SHOCKED...  I was finally able to get my head around Ned and then this?  I have to admit, his writing is unconventional.  I think normally you don't kill off your main characters unless it's romeo and juliet or a horror movie where EVERYONE dies except the busty starlet.

I have to admit, I love the Hound/Arya twist and the Deanarys story line.  But I grew attached to the some of the other characters and to see them gone is uncomfortable.  Not sure I like it.  I think I even had a stomach ache watching the wedding scene.  Not happy.

His writing is for the books not for TV so when you read the books you really don't know what is going to happen and I love it. When someone gets in a fight or there is something going on you really do get scared to turn a page but you MUST keep reading to find out what happens. In TV this breaks all the rules and while some people may not like it.... they are wrong

I'm hoping for a timely reunion since Arya is still kicking?

I honestly have a small glimmer of hope that her dancing instructor makes a magical reappearance.  In the book OR the TV show they never really confirmed if he was killed, even though it seems likely.  sounds like those Bravos guys have a fill special skills...

I forget which one of the Clegane boys came to take down the dancing instructor, but either way, I don't hold out much hope that he survived. They're not known for leaving survivors. Dead rats don't squeak and all that.

I seem to remember something about how Martin wrote the books specifically to make them not be turned into TV.
Something about how he was so disillusioned after writing for Twilight Zone and Beauty and the Beast in the 80s, he hated it, so he tried to write something unfilmable.

...until HBO backed a dump truck full of money up to his house and he suddenly decided that maybe they weren't so unflilmable after all.

I'm intentionally not reading any of this thread due to the spoilers, but I started watching Game of Thrones last weekend.

Holy crap is this show addicting.  I wish they didn't have all the gratuitous porn thrown in, but other than that it's an incredible series.  I just finished S03E03 last night where Jaime Lannister had his little hand issue.

My wife FINALLY got through the third season after starting from the beginning (season 1, episode 1) when the third season just finished airing.  I had to hold the secret of the ending of season 3 for like 6 months!  To see her face after the wedding?  It was a mix between shock, sadness, and anger.  She was actually tearing up...  I'm surprised no one had spoiled it for her.  I was anticipating that moment for a LONG time and was nervous/on edge how she would take it for the entire episode.

There were a few moments in the first three books that I literally had to stop reading and put it down, then go back to it and read from the start of the section, to make sure what I was reading was correct.

Unfortunately, there have been no moments like that since (well, maybe one, but it wasn't a thunderclap like the others)

I am wondering when will " Winds of winter" come out.

The next book for the TV show is "Feast of the Crows" which is the worst , might as well summarize and speed through it
and go straight to "Dance of the Dragons" for the next season. If they are going to have another season after Dance.
GRRM better speed up "Winds of winter"

The next season should actually be the second half of Book 3. So, we at least get another year to avoid Book 4 and all of the new characters.

Meryn Trant and several House Lannister men were dispatched to collect Arya. I don't recall any mention of The Hound (the Mountain was already raiding the Riverlands on Tywin Lannister's orders) going after Syrio.

Things did look grim for him, but not that grim.
