Subject: Proper wet suit sizing for Clydesdale

I'll be getting a shorty within the next week or two in anticipation of my first tri. It will be a 1/4 mile freshwater swim in May here in Connecticut. I'd like to get it soon so that I can get comfortable with it. I am heavy (225 lbs at 5 10). On most sizing charts, I'm in between sizes in term of height and weight. I tried a suit on at Dicks today. The neopyrene seemed to pull down on my shoulders alot and thinking the next size up would be best. I imagine a proper fitting suit should not restrict movement but beyond that, I'm clueless. Thoughts?

Was the wetsuit at Dick's a triathlon specific wetsuit (I'm guessing no) or a surfing style wetsuit (I'm guessing yes)? They are totally different products.

Yeah not sure Dicks is the right store to go to at this point. I would suggest trying De Soto 2 piece wetsuits.

The ability to get 2 pieces in different sizes pretty much guarantees you a great fit. They have great customer service as well. I swim in the 1st wave Desoto wetsuit and love it.

Being a Clydesdale still (only another week left,

) I had to go with sleeveless. I find it much more comfortable and less restrictive. Being in Tx that is a lot easier than other places, but to get something over my chest and arms like that made me claustrophobic and I couldn't move. Maybe when I get down to 200 pounds it will work better, but for me it was just a no go. As stated above make sure you are getting an actual Tri wetsuit, I surfed when I was younger and the 2 types of suits are VERY different.

5'10" and 220. Dick's wetsuits are not tri wetsuits.

If you're going to get a wetsuit, get a full sleeved one. Seriously.
If it feels like it's hampering your stroke, it doesn't fit right.

Go find yourself a tri store that rents wetsuits or go here:

Call them and/or email them and they'll hook you up with a wetsuit. Try out a few before you buy. 2XU fits different than Orca which fits different than Aquaman, etc.

Watch that a bazillion times before you put yours on.

If it fits when you're standing there dry, it's too big.

_{6' 225 here and the BlueSeventy Fusion works great for me. Full sleeved. I first rented it from wetsuitrental.com and then "kept" it at the end. Good way to find a good fitting suit.}
