Pre-race routine:

Organised my gear bag the night before and got up at 5.30am. Couple of bananas for breakfast, hydrated till 7am. Got there early to register and set up transition.

Had a really great swim, got into a good rhythm early and kept it going. Strongest swim I've had during a race.
What would you do differently?:

Still need more speed, which will come with more hard sessions in the pool.

The bike leg killed me. Once again it was the hills and I just struggled the whole way around the course.
What would you do differently?:

Really need to be training on the course and riding a lot more hills.

T2 went pretty smooth, bike racked, helmet off, bike shoes off, runners on, cap on whilst running out of transition.
What would you do differently?:

Again just practice getting the transition faster.

Struggled to get into a good rhythm over the first couple of laps, by lap 3 I was doing better. Last lap was fastest, made up a bit of ground.
What would you do differently?:

This was the best run I've done in a race but I am still really slow. Need to do more fartlek and interval work to get my pace up.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Fitness on the hills, the bike course really took its toll.

Event comments:

This is my third triathlon and was at my club. All of the members and officials are friendly and supportive. I couldn't ask for a better experience when I race with them as they always encourage me.

This race in particular was a good one for me as I PR'd my time from last year by over 9:08 mins. It also meant I won the long course sprint handicap event. I was absolutely thrilled with that!
