Sounds like a fun race! Don't worry about gels for race of this length, just some Gatorade on bike would be all you need, could probably just drink on the second run.

As far as pushing yourself, I always tell myself that there's no point finishing with fuel in the tank, just use it all up in the last few minutes and aim to finish totally spent.
