I had the timex one and I ended up taking it back, after 3 swims in the pool water got in there..
Got a garmin 310xt and love it.

I have been a long-time Garmin user (205 and 305) and I have loved their products so I imagine the 910xt is awesome. However, I just bought a very lightly used Polar RCX5 for $200 (GPS pod included) from my BIL and it has been awesome. I actually used it at my last 70.3 and it worked flawlessly and I love how well it holds up in the water and how it is low profile so I can wear it as a regular watch. I probably would have paid about $300 for it and felt good about my purchase. For $200 I got an absolute steal. For $400 I think I would have gone for the 910xt but I am really enjoying the RCX5. DC Rainmaker did a very thorough review of it also, so you can check that out.

I've heard too many little complaints about the 910. I just got a 310 for $169, and am happy with it so far. It is replacing my aging 305, which is 4+ years old, and has been showing its age with a few freezes and weird data output. I have a 500 for the bike, and am happy to put the 310 in my swim cap for OWS. For the current sale on the 310, it's almost too good to pass on.

Even skiing, I like to see how fast I can get going.

Got the 910xt on sale a couple weeks ago from REI and am hooked. So much fun to train now that I can analyze to my hearts content. Nice to look down to wrist while running and in a glance see distance, heart rate, pace, and total time all at once (or some other custom view). Neat stuff

Sounding like a broken record... Garmin 910XT for triathletes. If you're a duathlete, you can save quite bit with the 310XT (you're really only giving up the barometric altimeter of the 910XT)

Originally posted by JPanula Just have to put in a word for suunto. Previously had a t3d and now using the t6d. Chose it over the garmin due to its smaller size and the movescount software. Works great as an everyday watch, and can't complain about any of the functions during training. Living in Finland, and doing about 50% of my training indoors, so I love the option to have the gps as a separate unit. Not yet tried it during an ows, but I hope the gps pod in swimcap method works. And btw they just released a new gps pod. A lot smaller, also works without a watch (might be good for ows) and has an option for 10 sec interwalls (up to 100 hours on one charge).

I'll second the Suunto, I've had a T3c since 2008, and it still works like a champ, had an opportunity to get the Ambit 2s, I've only had it a couple of days but so far very impressed.

It's set up so you can do a tri and move seamlessly from swim to T1 to Bike to T2 to run and have it combined yet break out the 5 different "events" for all of your data.

Want to set it up for seamless run/swim brick, no problem, bike/run brick ez pezy. I've been very impressed with Suunto's quality compared to the other brands. My old T3c I have used as an every day watch and probably will continue that.

Here is a very good review of the Ambit and it's variants by D.C. Rainmaker Ambit 2 2s review
