400 | Subject: NC / SC Ironman in the Fall I hope this isn't a repost as I know there was a thread recently about Asheville bidding on Ironman. Here is an article where Myrtle Beach is considering a bid for a September 2014 Ironman. I guess this would be WTC going after B2B???

Elite 3060 N Carolina | Subject: RE: NC / SC Ironman in the Fall Full Disclosure: I race several Set Up Events races every year and 1-2 Ironman brand races also. I don't see this as WTC/Ironman trying to go after B2B. Early reports are that Asheville is considered the frontrunner with a Labor Day date. Plus, Myrtle Beach is going to pay $40,000 just for the opportunity to bid (not sure if they will get the money back if they don't get selected). WTC has said basically "We will add a race in the Southeast in the fall, if you are interested, submit a bid". If it turns out that Asheville in early Sept wins, then that is not a direct competitor to B2B in late October, IMHO. I would be willing to bet some people would do both. |

Greenville, SC | Subject: RE: NC / SC Ironman in the Fall Dates are different for each city that bids. The bid is open to all cities. The bid fee would be paid by every city interested. Bids close April 28. Announcement in July. In the interim, there will be an announcement of another HIM in the mix too. Doubt Asheville or Hilton Head get it. There are others that make more sense and are more likely....Myrtle Beach would be one of those. |

Not that Greenville is a bad town but the other three are vacation spots. |

I see that, just kind of convenient for me though i think it could be a good course venue... not necessarily a vacation venue. however, im sure you could argue that about 90% of the country with a lake near by. |

Mont Tremblant, Whistler, Tahoe, Los Cabos... |

We're driving distance to all the places you listed, and the first weekend my wife and I had alone after our first kid, we went to Greenville. The downtown area is fantastic.

It's nice. I have been there and driven through it many times. It's just not a place where others would be clamoring to go. |

I would love for it to be in Greenville as well especially since I am from Greenville....but in reality it will not be a place that is picked for an Ironman event...a 70.3 yeah but full distance probably not. I submitted my feedback for having a WTC Ironman in Hilton Head...I did not know that Myrtle Beach was in the picture. That would be the best for me, family has a condo on the strip so housing would be free...Either way it would be nice to have more iron distance events in the SouthEast. The three big ones are Louisville, Florida, and B2B that I am aware of. A late season in NC or SC would be awesome! |

Master 2094 | Subject: RE: NC / SC Ironman in the Fall Realistically there is no place in Greenville to swim. It would need to be at Lake Hartwell or Keowee. I doubt Saluda Lake would be big enough. Myrtle Beach would be a nice destination but would be a logistical nightmare. I did a 1/2 there and it was a mess. Swim was cancelled and the run was so confusing many of the participants didn't end up running 13.1. The area is just too crowded. HH and Asheville would both get my vote. Myrtle Beach would be OK if they could "Get it Right" |

Interesting. I wouldn't have thought WS would be a possibility but I have done some running races and organized rides in the area and was pleasantly surprised by each. Would be a surprise choice but not necessarily a bad one.

Regular 156 | Subject: RE: NC / SC Ironman in the Fall I heard they have been considering Williamsburg Virginia for a number of years. There is already a Setup Events half and sprint and will be a Rev 3 half this year as well. There ia also an inaugural non branded iron distance in Cape Charles Va. this fall. Would love to see it come to Williamsburg. It's a great venue. |

Doing a search I found that Columbia, SC also submitted a bid. After reading the executive summary in the link, it appears that the Williamsburg proposal was submitted for an event to take place in the years 2004-2009. Not sure what event was added in that timeframe....I believe Coeur d'Alene was added just before that and I know Louisville was added in 2007 so maybe Williamsburg was competing with Wisconsin or possibly Arizona? (Lake Placid and Florida were established well before 2004). |
