Subject: Used Ultegra 6700 vs. New 105
I am looking for my first road bike.  In my budget range, I have narrowed it down to 2 bikes.  One is a used 2010 Cannondale Six 3 Feminine (Ultegra 6700) and the other is a new closeout Cannondale SuperSix (105).  The new bike is a few hundred more, the used bike is said to have low miles and very little wear.  Advice?  Thanks for any help you can give.  I plan to ride it recreationally and in a few Sprint distance tri's.

For that price difference I'd probably grab the new bike.  Reasoning would be, if the components aren't in great shape you'll be replacing the cassette soon, chain and probably paying for a tune-up or something if you don't know how to do it all yourself.  That'll be about 150-200 maybe.  In addition, if you buy new from a good dealer you'll get better service and warranty while you own it and that could potentially be worth more.  Take it from a guy who has cracked up a couple of frames and needed that warranty....my 2 cents.

I'd go used Ultegra over new 105.  I've got about 9k miles on my Ultegra 6600 stuff and it's still excellent.  Shifting will be nicer and brake modulation better on the Ultegra stuff--though not by huge margins.  I think the better stuff is worth it.  Use the savings to replace wear parts--likely only a chain which isn't that much money.   Ask the shop to measure chain wear on it for you to see how much life it has left.

2013 105 is going to be equivalent or better than 2010 Ultegra.  It is the general trickle down of components.  I would go new if the price is within $300 or negotiate the used bike down.  Just because someone is asking a price used, doesn't mean you have to pay it.  I just got a used bike for my wife for 1k less than was initially asked.   Good luck either way.
