I'm new to the Area. My first Tri for the year is the  Summer OPEN Sprint Triathlon on 5/18 at Longmont.

Would like to get an open water swim practice in before the event. Anyone know of a good palce in the greater Denver area I could do it?

Not that I know of.  I don't think any of the reservoir swim beaches open until closer to Memorial Day.  The gravel pond tends to be very late May as well.  Grant Ranch is saying 5/18.

I do know there are hearty souls that swim early and late in the year so maybe someone else knows where they swim?

correct open water at chatfield opens today haha. however, like the above poster mentioned you need to be a member of cosma and either bike in or have a park pass.

Just a little bit away is the grant ranch open water they have a website with more information however I do not have a link or know when it opens. Grant ranch has no requirements other than buying our pass.

Other than that I have herd about one possibly in cherry creek area??? and of course good old boulder.

I heard that 5 people braved Chatfield yesterday.  Water temperature was 51 degrees and only 1 participant was wearing a wetsuit.  Those are some tough swimmers.

REAL tough swimmers.  I am waiting for Grant Ranch to open (I will use a wetsuit!).  I should be able to get in a swim while in Orlando, FL on business in two weeks.  My hotel is about 1.5 miles from Cane Lake so I can do Lucky's Lake Swim (luckyslakeswim.com) one morning.  It is a widely known 1K OWS.

There was a picture in the Denver Post this morning of those people at the gravel pond yesterday

Its about time for me to put up my first post!---and believe me-a rank amateur. Seems to be a good time to join the crowd here!

I have found that the Windsor Triatlon Club is planning to start a regular monday--- evening open water swim at the Water ValleyPelican Lakes golf course in Windsor. I too am going for my first ever triathlon at Union Reservoir on June 18th (Summer Open) and need to get some experience at some open water!! I'm going next monday 5:30-7:00 PM. You can contact them here:http://windsortriclub.com/w3c2013seasontraining.html

Seems to have a $10.00 drop in fee.

Word from the Union Reservoir ranger is that they could have trouble with having enough water to open the lake for swimming. They implied a possibility of having to drop the swim.
