Subject: RE: Spondylolysis - Pars Fracture There is hope! I have a grade 2 L5/S1 spondylolisthesis. Never had any pain or symptoms until I started tri training 3 yrs ago (this is after having 2 kids, doing 12 marathons and several other road races, strange weight lifting activities, etc). I've always managed by maintaining excellent lower abdominal strength, good body mechanics, and, did I mention good ab/core strength?! Really my only discomfort is as a result of an unstable SIJ (sacroiliac joint. as a result of the spondy) which requires manual techniques (by a chiropractor, I have to admit b/c I'm a physical therapist ). All is well and it hasn't slowed me down much at all. Please understand, each human body responds to different things differently. but I share my story to let you know that there is hope in conservative management. ...did i mention the importance of good ab/core strength and excellent body mechanics?? |
