... about 1 hour before going to bed tonight. Stupid me. Anybody else drink coffee shortly before going to bed and how was your night after that?

I usually sleep pretty well after a good post dinner coffee. I haven't had caffeine in 13 hours now and I can't get to sleep...

If I'm tired enough, it doesn't matter but in general, I try not to drink caffeine after 6pm. Caffeine has a half life of 3-7 hours so by bed time, caffeine at 6 should be 50 to 75 percent gone.

Why ruin a perfectly good Bailey's?

I used top be able to do it no problem, and now I can't have any caffeine after 3.

I also can't drink red wine anymore--wakes me up in the middle of the night and can't go back to sleep.  Whiskey, OTOH, is good to go;

Nothing like a nice strong Espresso to help digestion after dinner. No effect on sleep.

However, if my wife has coffee after dinner, I cannot sleep...She spends the whole night poking me and playing the "are you sleeping" game.

I know plenty of people that say they can sleep after coffeee... but you are going to have a hard time convincing me that you are sleeping good with caffeine in you.

I have a strict 6 hour cutoff before bed, or I can't get to sleep. But I can't get to sleep sometimes without coffee, so coffee makes it worse.

Well, it wasn't a pleasant, well-slept night.  I kept waking up every so often, more than usual I think.

I did help clear the GI path, though.

I'm picturing you sitting in the dimly-lit t.v. room at 2:30 a.m. with wide, red eyes and a game remote in your hand playing Halo or Street Thugs Carjack 16 or something like that.

I was feeling all guilty for posting my pic in the coffee thread.  Apparently there's a better place for such things...

I did some damage to that Woodford Reserve this week, and it might be my new favorite.  I highly recommend giving it try, if you haven't.  Soooo gooooood.  I wish I was drinking it right now.

Unfortunately, alcohol seems to have the same effect for me as caffeine--I'm usually okay with one beer or a small glass of wine, but anything beyond that and I'll have trouble falling asleep, then wake up every few hours and not end up with a good night's sleep. Actually fare better with caffeine--if I'm really tired, either from jet lag or training, it won't affect my sleep at all, even if I have an espresso within an hour of sleeping (not uncommon on our European bike tours). Otherwise, it will sometimes have an effect if I have coffee after 6, sometimes not. Maybe it's just tolerance--I don't drink much, maybe a beer once every week or so, but I live in Vietnam and we drink STRONG  coffee!

Those of you who like alcohol with your coffee might be interested--went to a Cinco de Mayo party today and someone had brought coffee-flavored tequila. It smelled kind of like the rum/espresso part of tiramisu, but it just didn't seem a good match with Mexican food, or like it would work in a margarita.  Had two "baby margaritas" instead (half margarita, half tropical fruit juice/sprite). That was more than enough.....hope to get some sleep tonight.

Coffee-flavored tequila?  Bleh!  Those are two great tastes that sound absolutely revolting together;)

Mama doesn't like to mix alcohol and coffee.  I like my coffee unadulterated.

If I drink tequila, I like to taste the tequila.  If I drink whiskey, I like to taste the whiskey.

Rum? Vodka? Eh, throw a little tonic and a lime in there and we'll call it good.

And I just don't do gin. Can't. <shudder>
