Great race Dan, speedy! Suzy, I can see a sub-1:40 in your near future, the Boston training should do it?

Good race ladies and Dan!!! I have been stalking not posting.

I went to a swim clinic Fri evening and got some drills and a work out. I guess I will get back in the pool this week. The cold weather has me unmotivated as of late just the last 2 days. I am trying to plan my race calender for 2014 I have 8 races on the list. I have 2 hals and other smaller races. I want to add a third half but not sure which one to do. I am planning on Gulf Coast in May and Augusta in September. I was also thinking B2B full not sure if I am ready for that though...swim would need much improvement. I am also trying to get 5k to sub 25 and a 50 min 10k. This should be enough motivation.

I don't think Boston training will get me there.  Too many longer miles at closer to MP pace.  I am focusing on Olympics this tri season so maybe that'll help.  Not sure!!

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!

While David was busy basking at the pool, we were freezing our fannies off at the 10K Thanksgiving Day Run!!  6F at the start, but that didn't stop 8,000 people from taking part.  Had fun (?), took 5/68 in my AG, but was a whopping 3+' off my PR (what the heck?!).  Had a great steak dinner on the grill (my mom's request) and celebrated my mom's 90th birthday.  Quite the day!

Who's shopping today? overeating again?

Working this weekend so had yesterday off.

As Suzy said, I spent yesterday baking in the heat and in and out of the pool, most of the day was spent watching my 10 year old swimming for his school at a carnival then taking my 12 year old to sailing at the Yacht Club in Noosa.

Finished off with a Sufferfest workout, was still 33 c (91F) when I got on the trainer and I was sweating before I even started despite 2 fans.

I did "Hell Hath No Fury" which is rated as being almost impossible to do at 100% power! I struggled and had to drop the power to 95% to complete it...

Nice job on the 10K Suzy.  With 8000 people running, it must be pretty tough to navigate those first few kms.   I did some shopping on Friday - ended up buying an EN season plan for the IM distance.   It includes their Outseason package and a 20 week IM plan.  I am likely not going to start on the Outseason until the beginning of January.

I also did some tri-related shopping at the beginning of November.  I'll post a picture soon.

David: 33C and you are on the trainer.  Man does that sound tough especially when you have such beautiful riding country around you.

Back out on the road this morning before work, beautiful cool start after a storm. As I went out of town an old guy in a 4wd pulled out of a side road and kept on coming literally pushing me across the road with my leg pressed against his front bumper! I shouted so that he finally looked and stopped, he'd been looking down the road for oncoming cars and totally missed seeing me... Very scary.

This is one reason why I can tolerate the trainer at any time of the year. A couple of elite triathletes were coming along and one said "mate, you nearly became an ornament on his bonnet there!"

I went out for a beer tonight with an old friend who is an intensive care doctor. He also does heicopter retrievals. Not long after my bike scare a 52 year old women was killed in a head on crash about half a mile from where I live and he was called in to the scene. Take care out there everyone.

congrats on the PR Mike.   I will pass on the run every day thing, but good luck with it.   I think the key for that kind of thing is to distribute your current weekly mileage across 7 days and only increase by 5-10% total per week.

I like the pics!   Looks like you hit the ground so hard on your jump that you bounced the others up into the air.

I grew up in those temps - don't miss 'em at all.  We had a little snow on the ground this morning with 0c.   I did a short run in the rain and 4c.   -4c and snow would have been better.

How do you and Trevor run in those cold temps? Do you acclimate quickly? Trevor that is amazing you ran in -25C!
We are getting our first snow here of 6 or more inches then ice over night. Nothing like the Canadian's weather though ; )

I don't think you ever get completely used to it, but the right clothes matter a lot.  I've discovered wearing Smartwool Phd socks (they're thin), mittens and face mask work fairly well.  Not sure why wool is a superb fabric.  The other key for me is running into the wind first and having it at my back when I am sweaty.  Didn't work perfectly today, but not bad!

I do find that running outside in this crap makes the normal day to day movement in it easier.  Not sure that makes sense to most of you, but it must toughen you up somehow.

Hey, all!

On day 5 - recovering from surgery to remove a particularly aggressive form of basal cell carcinoma from my nose - bigger than a pea, and a direct result of years spent baking in the sun as a teen.

Truly stinks -hurts like heck - will leave a yukky scar.

SUNSCREEN, people, SUNSCREEN!!!!
