REVOLUTION3 Triathlon
59F / 15C
Precipitation
Total Time = 6h 50m 22s
Overall Rank = 186/327
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 5/9
Pre-race routine:

Woke up about 4:45, got dressed and put on Rev3 Tattoos, had pb&j with a banana. Went down to transition. Got everything setup and back to the hotel room at 6am. Got on wetsuit and went down to swim at 6:30 to start warmup for 6:55 wave start
Event warmup:

Swung arms around, got into water about 3 mins before horn to get my face used to the cold water.
Swim
  • 40m 21s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

Thought I would be the slowest so I hung near the back, had to pass a bunch of people at the start. Went to wide and tried to correct by going back at the wrong angle, ended up zig-zagging the whole course.
What would you do differently?:

Better sighting and start mid pack.
Transition 1
  • 07m 41s
Comments:

Long run (.3 miles) into T1. Bike near entrance. Got suit off, took time to put on long sleeve waterproof bike jacket. Made sure live track on garmin was setup for everyone watching. Ran out.
What would you do differently?:

Move quicker?
Bike
  • 3h 25m 38s
  • 56 miles
  • 16.34 mile/hr
Comments:

Never rode in rain before and was running Corsa Evo CX's, read some reviews that they were not good in rain so I was cautions at first. However I found they stuck like glue no mater how much rain I was heading through. Only had my 2 bottles in cages probably should have exchanged one at least. Dropped chain 4 times, both ways. Need to figure that out, maybe something happened in transport.
What would you do differently?:

Bike more, not wear rain jacket in that temperature, acted like a big parachute. Fix front derailuer.
Transition 2
  • 03m 33s
Comments:

Skipped changing to my running socks since they would get soaked within moments. Grabbed a visor to keep rain off face.
What would you do differently?:

Feel good with this transition, stopped at aid station right before mat which added a few seconds to T2 time.
Run
  • 2h 33m 10s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 11m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

Tough run, creek near path was flooded over causing water to pool up to my calves at some points. Felt like an adventure race.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder, too much left in tank when done.
Post race
Warm down:

Got medal, shirt, and dry towel. Found my parents, went to expo and bought a hat. Went back to hotel to shower and dry off.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

weather conditions, miscalculated my overall time and thought I missed my goal (7hrs) so I took longer on the run than I should have

Event comments:

Great race, rain put a damper on most of the activities but glad they didn't cancel the race like my last Rev3 one (Cedar Point sprint )

Well done man.  I raced the half as well.  It was a long, cold, wet day.

jkintn - 2013-05-06 8:30 AM Well done man.  I raced the half as well.  It was a long, cold, wet day.

Thanks, I still met my goal despite the weather and it's a PR time since it was my first.
